Are you ready for a bigger task?

The Swedish Police Authority is Sweden's largest authority with approximately 40,000 employees across the country. With us, you have the opportunity to contribute to the Police's mission to increase safety and reduce crime in society.

The Södermanland Police Area is in the midst of an exciting development effort to strengthen our crime fighting. By increasing our clearance rates and enhancing the presence of uniformed police in external service, we create a safer everyday life for citizens. Our goal is to integrate the entire investigative mission of the Police by ensuring that the unbroken chain of response remains just that—unbroken.

The Eskilstuna Local Police Area is part of the Södermanland Police Area. Within the local police area, there are intervention and crime prevention activities, investigative groups, traffic operations, as well as support and service.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The work in the detention center is conducted in collaboration with the police area's other operations. You will handle and meet individuals who have been deprived of their liberty for various reasons. Many are deprived of liberty for the purpose of investigating crimes, but it can also involve shorter detentions due to intoxication. The detention officer is the person the detainee has the closest contact with during their stay as a detainee in the detention facility, and the work is conducted under the supervision of a station commander.

Your job responsibilities will include:

  • Assisting the intervention operations during reception and searches
  • Monitoring and supervising those in the detention facility
  • Administrative tasks, such as documentation regarding the detention, DNA sampling, fingerprinting, and photography, urine testing, and database checks
  • Taking police reports and documentation in the police's data system
  • Assisting with transports to court hearings and monitoring assignments at, for example, hospitals

The pace of work varies over time and depends on how many people are subject to various types of deprivation of liberty or who visit the reporting reception. The work requires a professional approach and an attitude characterized by respect for everyone's equal value. You must also have good health and physical conditions as the work requires you to act physically at certain times. The work is conducted around the clock, every day of the year, which means irregular working hours and includes day/evening/night shifts as well as weekends.

You will undergo an introduction and training to become authorized to work as a detention officer.

QUALIFICATIONS

This is an opportunity for you who have:

  • Completed and passed high school education with full grades or equivalent education that the employer assesses as equivalent
  • Experience working with individuals in vulnerable situations, from, for example, the Police Authority or the Correctional Service, or experience in service work with extensive customer contact in areas that the employer assesses as relevant for the position
  • Good computer skills
  • Good ability to express yourself well in speech and writing in Swedish and English
  • Driver's license (B)

It is meritorious if you have:

  • Completed the police detention officer training with a passing result
  • Experience working as a detention officer or similar
  • Experience in administrative tasks that the employer assesses as relevant

Personal Qualities

The job responsibilities require you to have the ability to make responsible and wise individual assessments. The work can at times be stressful and psychologically demanding, which requires you to have achieved personal maturity and be able to maintain good prioritization skills and act rationally and professionally even under pressure. The work is also physically demanding, which requires you to have good physical condition. We prefer that you are empathetic and understanding, but you should also be able to set boundaries and follow decisions.
