Unit Manager for Open Youth Activities

In Varberg Municipality, we are about 5,000 employees who share the same operational idea: We aim to simplify people's everyday lives and inspire them to achieve their dreams. We do this in many different ways, with more than 135 different professions in our broad operations. Varberg is growing, and the demand for municipal services is both increasing and changing; therefore, we need your expertise.

Do you want to grow with us?

The Culture and Leisure Administration manages and oversees the municipality's cultural and leisure facilities such as libraries, cultural centers, art halls, youth centers, cultural schools, theaters, and sports facilities. We also provide services and grants to associations within the municipality. The Culture and Leisure Administration has two departments – culture and library, and leisure.

The Leisure Department is responsible for the municipal sports facilities, youth center activities, senior activities, and parts of outdoor life. The department is also responsible for grants and support to the sports associations. An important task for the entire leisure department is dialogue with the associations in various areas. The prioritized target group of the Culture and Leisure Committee is children and young people, which permeates the work throughout the administration.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a unit manager, you are responsible for planning, developing, and leading the administration's open youth activities. The unit currently has 17 employees and a smaller group of on-call staff distributed across six youth centers, a mobile youth service, and three targeted intervention areas for specific youth groups. You are part of the leisure department's management team, and the Leisure Operations Manager is your immediate supervisor.

Your responsibilities include collaboration and networking with other municipal administrations, civil society, associations, other municipalities, and other necessary and developmental contacts for the operation. You have personnel responsibility, operational responsibility, and budget responsibility.

A review of the unit's overall operations and organization has been conducted, which means an upcoming development project that you are expected to lead.

QUALIFICATIONS

The open youth activities have an experienced, competent, and multifaceted staff, and we are now looking for an experienced and structured leader for the operation.

We are looking for someone with experience in management and leadership roles within the youth and leisure sector and a clear vision of how this area can develop in the growing municipality, as well as being engaged in youth and leisure issues. You want to contribute to creating a holistic view of young people's well-being, participation, inclusion, and social contexts, as well as the importance of active leisure for everyone, regardless of conditions and interests.

It is an advantage if you have previous experience leading change and development processes in operations and have knowledge of systematic quality work, such as KEKS or similar. Experience working with digitalization and digital youth culture is also desirable.

You have relevant academic education or other equivalent competence in the area that the employer assesses as equivalent.

Experience leading youth center activities and working with children and young people is meritorious.

You have leadership experience, the ability to maintain a helicopter perspective, and recognize the value of environmental monitoring as well as building good relationships both internally and externally.

As a leader, you are a clear and straightforward person with integrity who has the ability to inspire and create an open, creative, and trusting work environment. You have a positive attitude, work for the best of the organization, and are solution-focused.

Your ability to collaborate is good, and you have the ability to influence both within the organization and outwardly in the community. Collaboration is of great importance as cooperation within the Culture and Leisure Administration and with other administrations is a vital part of the work.

You should have good communication skills, both written and verbal. The work requires a structured approach and the ability to systematically and methodically drive development forward.

It is an advantage if you have experience working in a politically governed organization and with union cooperation. Familiarity with digital systems is a prerequisite.

We place great emphasis on personal suitability.

Requirement: B driver's license.
