The County Administrative Board is a driving force for a sustainable society

We work together with authorities, municipalities, businesses, and other actors focusing on Västra Götaland County and our 1.7 million inhabitants. The County Administrative Board has a broad operation and a very important role in several areas of society.

This includes the highly relevant challenges of regional growth, implementing the green transition, developing civil defense, and nurturing democracy.

The County Administrative Board is a regional government agency with about 1,000 friendly and competent employees. We operate in several locations in Västra Götaland but also in other parts of Sweden as we are responsible for the IT operations for all county administrative boards.

Kosterhavet National Park is managed by an administrative office, which is part of the Nature and Water Department at the County Administrative Board of Västra Götaland. We are also responsible for the management and maintenance of nature reserves; Kosteröarna, Saltö, Nord Långö, Västra Rossö, and Väderöarna. In addition, we also operate the visitor center naturum Kosterhavet. Naturum is the main entrance to the national park and is located on Sydkoster in Ekenäs harbor. With 65,000 visitors each year, we are one of the larger attractions in the area.

We are now looking for someone who wants to work with us at naturum Kosterhavet.

Our large exhibition, auditorium, and touch aquarium with some of the species in the national park are central parts of the operation, but some of the work is also done outdoors. We are open for a large part of the year, with the most visitors during the summer months. The main focus is to inspire people to experience nature and to want to learn more about it. The nearby area of Kosteröarna and Kosterhavet National Park is of course close at hand, but we also want to contribute to increasing marine awareness in society.

Every year from March to November, we need reinforcement at naturum. We are now looking for someone who wants to work with us from April to June, with good opportunities to continue working during the summer and fall.

Job Description

A large and important part of the work as a nature guide is hospitality. Visitors should feel welcome, be seen, gain increased knowledge, and be inspired to discover naturum and the surrounding nature. We talk about the sea and nature in general and in detail. Different visitors have different needs, and we need to be responsive to that.

The intensity of the operation varies throughout the year, and therefore we also have varying needs for extra staff. March to June is our pre-season. We are open Thursday to Sunday until May, when we start to be open every day. In May and June, we welcome many school classes and larger groups arriving by chartered boats. As a nature guide, you are expected to keep naturum open both weekdays and weekends; alone or together with other nature guides. You are also expected to share responsibility for school teaching by leading half classes of about 15 students.

The main tasks of the position are:

• Be a good host for naturum Kosterhavet and the national park.
• Provide qualified nature guidance to the public.
• Provide tourist information about the Kosteröarna destination and surrounding areas.
• Sales from the naturum shop.
• Together with other nature guides, plan and conduct lessons with school classes focused on marine biology.
• Basic maintenance of naturum, such as cleaning and caring for aquariums and daily oversight of exhibitions and toilets.

You will work based on a fixed schedule with work on weekdays and weekends. You also need to be able to come in at short notice if colleagues become ill or unable to work.

Qualifications

Requirements

• Ongoing or completed education in biology, ecology, marine biology, environmental science, or similar experience deemed equivalent by the employer.
• Speak and write Swedish and English well.

Meritorious

• Experience in educational work.
• Practical experience in nature guidance.
• Understanding of the Norwegian language.
• Previous employment at naturum Kosterhavet or another naturum in Sweden.
