About the Position

You will work with extremely advanced wood bending, where tolerances are measured in millimeters, moisture in percentage points, and failures are analyzed as scientific experiments. The projects are complex, often unique, and sometimes something that really shouldn't be possible to do in wood, yet must be done.

What the Role Entails

The role involves responsibility for advanced design and bending of solid wood and laminated structures in technically complex projects. The work includes method selection, material analysis, development of jigs and molds, prototype building, and final manufacturing where tolerances, shape stability, and long-term strength are critical.

The role requires a deep understanding of wood behavior, practical experience with several bending methods, and the ability to solve problems where ready-made solutions are lacking. You will work independently and take full responsibility for the results. Travel to different cities within Sweden may occur as needed, which requires good flexibility and the ability to relocate.

Qualifications

Have many years of documented experience in advanced wood bending, for example:

High-level steam bending
Laminating in complex radii
Combined techniques for controlled deformation
Understanding wood at the cellular level:
Can reason about lignin, fiber compression, and tension zones
Knows exactly when a material will crack, before it does
Can build their own jigs, molds, and tools as ready-made solutions rarely exist
Sees CAD drawings as suggestions, not answers
At least 5 years of documented experience

Desirable (but expected):

Experience working with:
Solid hardwood in extreme dimensions
Wood species with poor bending ability (and still succeeded)
Ability to combine traditional craftsmanship with experimental methods
Documented experience in prototype development where the first version is never the one used

Employment

The employment form is full-time with a permanent position
During the recruitment process, we will need to see 5 different completed works as references in wood bending
