Swedish Prison and Probation Service Seeks Security Technician in Kalmar
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our main goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transport.
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service in Kalmar is expanding and currently has several ongoing projects and new establishments ahead. Establishment of a Class 3 prison in 2026, a new detention center aiming to be operational in 2027, and a new correctional facility expected to be completed by 2030. The expansion creates significant opportunities, and several new employees in various professional categories will be recruited in the coming years.
RESPONSIBILITIES
For the Kalmar operational area, we are now seeking a security technician who will work in our existing operations and also be involved in the startup of our new establishments. As a security technician, you will work with high-tech security systems in a high-security environment. You will jointly be responsible for local development, operation, maintenance, replacements, service, and troubleshooting of the technical installations of the operations. The systems include, among other things, master alarm systems with subsystems such as intercom systems, assault alarms, fire alarms, CCTV, intrusion alarms, locking, and access control systems. You will also work with networks, physical and virtual servers, storage, and monitoring of networks in the aforementioned systems. Administrative tasks such as access administration, documentation, registry maintenance, and hardware support related to our security systems will also occur. We appreciate a proactive attitude and drive, as we place great emphasis on professional development. You will have the opportunity to influence your work situation and the development of your role.
Your work will also include, together with your manager, ensuring that the infrastructure for the security systems aligns with the needs of the Swedish Prison and Probation Service. You will plan and be responsible for specifications and orders of security systems and ensure that larger tasks are carried out by suppliers. You will act as technical support and assist all departments with security technical questions in the area. You will inform, educate, and guide staff in the handling of security devices and will be responsible for locks and keys.
You will be stationed in Kalmar, but as needed, you will also assist other units within the region with security technical questions. Business travel is included in the assignment.
QUALIFICATIONS
To succeed in this role, you need to have a genuine interest in security technology and security work. You should be proactive, take responsibility for your tasks, and independently drive your processes forward. Since the work is complex, good problem-solving and analytical skills, as well as practical skills, are required. As you will collaborate with both internal and external parties, good collaboration skills are also necessary. You should be able to explain and translate the technical process to other employees simply, as you may be required to formulate routines and instructions for technical equipment.
For us, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and belief in the individual's will and ability to develop. You should also be aware of and understand how background, culture, and group affiliation affect yourself and others.
