Biomedical Analyst/Medical Biologist for Infection Control in Västerbotten
Region Västerbotten works to ensure that good health and sustainable development strengthen each other. We take responsibility for equitable welfare and ensure that research and innovation yield results.
Laboratory Medicine Västerbotten comprises about 520 employees in specialties including: infection control, clinical microbiology, clinical genetics, clinical immunology and transfusion medicine (KITM), clinical chemistry, and clinical pathology. Laboratory Medicine is a regional organization and also operates the Northern Biobank.
The Infection Control department leads patient safety efforts in Region Västerbotten in the field of Infection Control. We assist healthcare facilities and regional management with expert knowledge to effectively work towards preventing healthcare-associated infections (HAIs) and the spread of infections.
The Infection Control department is a well-functioning unit with highly engaged and competent staff who, in addition to Region Västerbotten, also have agreements with Västerbotten's 15 municipalities to support their efforts in preventing HAIs and the spread of infections among users and healthcare personnel. Dental care is also included in the area of responsibility.
We are now looking for a biomedical analyst/medical biologist for the infection control laboratory at Nus, a six-month temporary position with the possibility of extension. You will be part of a team consisting of biomedical analysts, infection control nurses, medical technology managers, statisticians, clinic administrators, and infection control physicians.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a biomedical analyst in Infection Control, you will have a significant role in patient safety within Region Västerbotten.
Your responsibilities include performing sampling and analysis of dialysis fluids, as well as analyzing drinking water in hospitals for the presence of legionella bacteria. You will also analyze microbiological purity in other fluids.
You will conduct air sampling during surgical operations to check the microbiological purity of the air in operating rooms and perform similar investigations in other healthcare facilities. You will check microbiological purity in air and on surfaces in areas with particularly high standards, such as where blood products are produced. You will participate in the sequencing of bacterial genomes to quickly investigate and stop the spread of infections within healthcare.
Another important task is to contribute to the development of new diagnostic methods. Collaboration with staff in clinical microbiology is central and occurs daily; we share facilities and assist each other. We also have daily contact with our customers for planning sampling.
You need to be able to independently process and compile information in writing so that the facilities can access our results and recommendations. You will also participate in oral external communication and be the infection control contact person.
Travel by car to various locations is required and included in the job.
