About the Workplace, SVA
Dangerous animal infections can have serious consequences, from suffering in animals and humans to economic losses and disruptions in food supply. The Swedish National Veterinary Institute, SVA, is an expert authority that strengthens Sweden's ability to combat animal diseases that pose threats to critical societal functions through diagnostics, research, and advice. Healthy animals – safe people.
The Parasitology Section performs diagnostics on most parasites of veterinary significance. We primarily analyze fecal samples from various animal species and trichinella samples from wild boars. The laboratory is part of SVA's microbiology department and is the national reference laboratory for parasites. We are now looking for a colleague who, like us, has a genuine interest in disease-causing worms and critters.
Job Responsibilities
The work consists of unpacking, registering, and preparing primarily fecal samples. Regular staff with authorization then examine the samples for parasites. The job also includes handling waste and dishwashing. The extent of working hours depends entirely on the volume of incoming samples, which varies from week to week. The entire season runs from April to early June, with a peak from the second half of April to the first half of May.
Qualifications
We are looking for motivated, responsible, and meticulous individuals who can maintain focus even when handling large volumes of samples. You will be standing for large parts of the day, which may initially be demanding for those who are unaccustomed. We want you to enjoy working in a team. To understand instructions and methods, you must be proficient in Swedish, both spoken and written.
Meritorious
Previous experience in routine diagnostics within parasitology.
Conditions
Intermittent employment on an hourly basis as needed until 2026-06-30.
Other - Good to Know

In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we know that animal diseases can pose a threat to society and severely impact Sweden's food supply, health, and economy. As an emergency preparedness authority, SVA is part of the Food Supply and Drinking Water sector.
SVA is a government agency, which means that all communications sent to us become public records. If you have a protected identity, do not apply for the job here on the web; please contact us instead.
Tests and work samples may occur during the recruitment process.
The agency may conduct background checks in connection with recruitment.
If you are a Swedish citizen and permanently employed at SVA, you will be placed in a war position within the agency.
For certain positions, a security review with a background check may be conducted according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) before a hiring decision is made. In some cases, Swedish citizenship is required.
In preparation for the recruitment work, SVA has taken a conscious active stance on recruitment channels and marketing. Therefore, we do not wish to be contacted by advertising sellers or recruitment companies.
Grow and develop at SVA – we welcome your application!
