Motor Mechanic at Ö-varvet

Do you want to work at a shipyard with a long tradition and over 100 years of experience in boat building and repair? At Ö-varvet, part of Öckeröborgen, we work with service, maintenance, repairs, and new production for commercial actors. We are one of Sweden's leading shipyards and work with several engine and system brands, including Yanmar, Cat, MTU, Scania, and Volvo. The engine department currently consists of six people with mixed experience, and we are now looking for a new colleague as one of our experienced employees is retiring.

As a motor mechanic with us, you will work with diesel engines and drive systems in a varied environment both in the workshop and out with customers. You will be able to apply your technical skills in practice and work with diverse tasks while maintaining contact with customers and suppliers.

Your main responsibilities include:

  • Service and troubleshooting of diesel engines for professional boats, from bench testing to installations
  • Renovation and maintenance of engines and drivetrains, including gearboxes
  • Documentation in business systems and customer contact with a focus on solution-oriented service
  • Test driving and optimizing engines, as well as system diagnostics
  • Ordering and handling spare parts
  • Travel along the coast, mainly between Strömstad and Halmstad, about 2-3 times a month

You will work independently but also together with colleagues when needed. The work environment is varied between the workshop and out on boats, which means that each day is unique and requires flexibility, accuracy, and problem-solving.

Our offer

We offer a varied and stimulating work environment with great responsibility, where you have the opportunity to develop within several engine and system brands. You will become part of an experienced team where experience is valued, while new ideas and initiatives are encouraged. The work environment is dynamic with both technical and administrative challenges, and the role involves a broad contact area with customers, suppliers, and engine manufacturers.

We are looking for someone with a high school education, vocational training, or equivalent work experience and basic knowledge of mechanics and technical systems. You should understand how engines and drivetrains work – from fuel to propeller – and be able to troubleshoot engines in a structured manner. Experience with marine engines and/or diesel engines is a plus.

Preferred qualifications include experience with:

  • Computer-controlled engines and systems
  • Service on various engine and system brands
  • Documentation in business systems

As a person, you are self-driven and take responsibility for finding solutions. You sometimes work alone and sometimes with colleagues, and you need to communicate clearly with both customers and colleagues in Swedish and English.

The work demands high accuracy and quality in everything you do. Since travel along the coast is required, a driver's license is a must, and we prefer that you have a manual transmission license as most of our vehicles are manual.

More about the position and recruitment process

The position involves working on-site at Öckerö, with working hours from 06:30 to 15:30. Since some of our largest customers are the Armed Forces and FMV, the selected candidate will undergo a security clearance.

For questions about the position, you are warmly welcome to contact Tobias Hansson at phone number 031 756 00 94 or email [email protected]. Apply by clicking on "apply now" and fill in the form where you will answer selection questions relevant to the position. You may also attach your CV, but it is not mandatory.

We look forward to your application!

Ö-varvet is a new construction and repair/service shipyard that performs dry docking, repair/service, reconstruction, new construction, and marine electronics on Öckerö. Our mechanical production takes place on Hönö where we carry out, for example, the manufacturing of winches and steel and aluminum constructions.

We are located in a fantastic environment out on Öckerö. If you live on the islands, you probably know how to get here, but getting to us from the city is also easy. Ferries depart every ten minutes from Lilla Varholmen, and the journey takes only 12 minutes. Once across, it is only a couple of kilometers to the shipyard, and there are both bus connections and a nice bike path.

Ö-Varvet is part of Öckeröborgen.
