Would you like to work at one of the world’s brightest synchrotron light facilities?

MAX IV Laboratory is seeking a machinist with a focus on CNC machining, particularly turning on a Y-axis lathe.

In the workshop, we manufacture research equipment for our own operations. We are also responsible for urgent interventions and repairs at the facility. Most of the production is low-volume manufacturing, but larger volumes also occur.

The workshop team currently consists of six people. The workshop includes:

  • Five milling machines, one of which is five-axis
  • A CNC lathe with Y-axis
  • TIG and MIG welding
  • Manual machine tools
  • Laser cutting
  • Vacuum soldering
  • Wire EDM
  • CMM (coordinate measuring machine)
  • Sheet metal cutting and bending

The workshop uses the CAD/CAM system GibbsCAM and PEPS for wire EDM. At MAX IV, we work with many different materials, such as common metals, plastics, and ceramics. Sometimes we work with very tight tolerances and short lead times, which requires you to be precise and flexible even under time pressure.

There are unique opportunities at the workplace to learn new tasks that are valuable for the operations. MAX IV Laboratory offers both internal and external training as needed.

Job Responsibilities

  • Your main tasks will be turning, but you will also perform other tasks based on the needs of the operations.
  • You will manufacture components according to orders from internal customers.
  • The manufacturing may involve several processes such as machining, welding, and sheet metal processing.
  • Machining primarily takes place in CNC machines, but you should also be able to work on manual machines.
  • The work may also involve assembly, maintenance, and repairs at the facility.
  • The workshop is also responsible for inspecting externally manufactured goods.

Future tasks may include material ordering, contact with external suppliers, inventory, outsourcing, and documentation. This requires you to be organized and have a good sense of order.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of vocational training or equivalent experience
  • At least five years of experience in CNC machining
  • Training in CAM preparation is a requirement, preferably in GibbsCAM
  • Experience in machining on a Y-axis lathe or equivalent is a requirement
  • Experience in TIG/MIG welding, wire EDM, and laser cutting is advantageous
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as we work in an international environment

As a person, you are a pronounced team player with good collaboration skills and a high service level, as many tasks are carried out in close cooperation with clients and designers. You are flexible and structured as priorities can change quickly. Of course, you are quality-conscious, as our components sometimes require very tight tolerances.

What We Offer

When you join our MAX IV team, you step into a world of leading science. We make the invisible visible by supporting researchers from around the world to generate scientific results for the benefit of society. We offer you a multicultural work environment with great opportunities for personal development and respect for a healthy work-life balance.
