At the Swedish Migration Agency, we work with one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. We are approximately 6,000 people here, and we have an unusually important job!

The Swedish Migration Agency is on a journey of development and is working to shape the Legal Department and operations to meet future needs.
We are now looking for someone who, together with the agency's management team, wants to take responsibility for the leadership, governance, and development of the Legal Department's operations based on the agency's overall operational goals.
About the Assignment
The Chief Legal Officer reports directly to the Director General.
Your colleagues are located in several places in the country where the Swedish Migration Agency operates. Your placement will be in Norrköping, Stockholm, Gothenburg, or Malmö.
Who Are We Looking For?
We are looking for someone with an interest and experience in management and governance issues. You will play an active role in the agency, combining legal expertise with strategic leadership, thus influencing the development of an organization that plays a central role in one of the major societal issues of our time – migration. You are a confident and decisive leader who creates stability and direction. With a focus on managing and developing a purposeful organization, you build the conditions for managers and employees to grow and reach their full potential.
To this, you have:
- Experience as a court assessor in a court of appeal or administrative court.
- Extensive experience in qualified legal work with high demands on legal professionalism.
- Very good knowledge of public administration and its decision-making processes.
- Current and documented good management and leadership experiences.
- Excellent language skills in Swedish, both spoken and written, and good knowledge of English.
Meritorious
- Experience working at the Government Offices
- Knowledge of the EU's legislative process
Personal Qualities
The personal qualities are very important for the role of Chief Legal Officer at the Swedish Migration Agency. You meet high demands for judgment, integrity, and decisiveness. The work requires accuracy and the ability to perform under periods of high workload without compromising quality. You have a very good analytical ability and a well-developed communicative ability.
As a leader, you find it easy to collaborate and have a solution-oriented and unpretentious approach, while also being driven and strategic. You have a good ability to lead and motivate your employees. You are used to working in a structured manner with clear goals and good planning, as well as making priorities for yourself and your employees.

Employment type: Permanent employment (probationary period applies)
Working hours: Trust-based working hours
Salary: We apply individual salary setting
Placement: Norrköping, Stockholm, Gothenburg, or Malmö
Start date for the position: by agreement
Security clearance with background checks according to the Security Protection Act (2018:585) will be conducted before a decision on employment – which means a requirement for Swedish citizenship. Employment is contingent upon a successful security clearance.
