Your upcoming role As a train attendant at SJ, you play an important role in providing passengers with a comfortable, safe, and pleasant journey. You serve as the passengers' first contact and are an important ambassador on board the trains. The role includes:
Delivering world-class service to our passengers to create a wonderful travel experience on our trains
Traffic safety responsibility for passengers both on board and during boarding and disembarking
Managing sales in the bistro and on certain trains serving in 1st class
Checking tickets and assisting with connections
Answering questions and providing clear information to passengers both in direct contact and via announcements
Working as a train attendant at SJ means an exciting and varied workday, and you will have the opportunity to meet hundreds of people every day. You collaborate with other staff on board, and together with engaged colleagues, you create greater value for our passengers. You will be part of the Service unit, and you have a thousand colleagues across the country. Our operations are open every day of the year, which means that the work as a train attendant includes shift work and weekend work, as well as overnight stays in other locations. Working hours may fall outside public transport schedules, and you need to be able to get to work regardless of the time of day.
Expectations for the candidate we are looking for You are confident in making your own decisions and taking responsibility in rapidly changing situations that require quick adaptation. When unexpected events occur, it is important to work closely with colleagues and communicate effectively to resolve situations. Your ability to be a team player makes you an invaluable part of the team. We prefer that you have at least 3 years of work experience, preferably in the service industry. You are a person with a strong focus on safety, solution-oriented, and have an easy time interacting with people. In the role of train attendant, you must be punctual and able to get to and from your station on your own, even when public transport is not operating.
We are looking for someone who:
Is at least 20 years old at the start of employment, as you will need to handle alcohol in the bistro service on board the trains (Alcohol Act Chapter 8, Section 18)
Has a complete high school education or work experience that the employer deems equivalent
Is interested in technology and has experience working with digital tools
Speaks and writes Swedish fluently and has good knowledge of English. It is an advantage if you master additional languages
Meets EU health requirements for railway personnel, which is a prerequisite for you to work in this safety-critical role. It is important that you read through what it entails: Health requirements for personnel with safety-critical tasks.
A technical interest and experience with digital tools are important, as a large part of your daily work takes place via technical systems on board the train.
Training for success – Your path to a safe start
Your career with us begins with a paid full-time training that lasts for about 10 weeks. Read more about what the training includes on our FAQ. The training starts on April 9, 2026. During the training, you will learn everything from handling unforeseen situations to providing excellent service and understanding the technical aspects on board the train. You will gain in-depth knowledge of the laws and regulations governing the railway industry and your upcoming role with us. After completing the full-time training, you will be employed on an hourly basis as needed, which amounts to approximately 20%, with the possibility of higher employment during the summer period.

This is a part-time position, where you work as needed, making the position perfect as an extra job alongside a part-time position or if you plan to start studying in the fall. The working rate is approximately 20% and will primarily be scheduled every other weekend, with the possibility of a higher employment rate during the summer period.
