Skaraborg Hospital (SkaS) operates in several locations in Skaraborg, including Falköping, Lidköping, Mariestad, and Skövde. We provide specialist healthcare in around thirty specialties and work together for the health of our patients throughout their lives, offering cohesive and secure care. Rheumatology Department

The rheumatology service is conducted through outpatient care and day care at Skaraborg Hospital.

The unit's team includes doctors, nurses, nursing assistants, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, social workers, rehabilitation coordinators, and medical secretaries. We are a unit with short decision-making paths, we work flexibly and help each other – there is always time to discuss a tricky case. Currently, 6 specialists and 2 resident doctors work at the rheumatology clinic. We have close cooperation with physiotherapists and occupational therapists who conduct examinations and provide patients with assistive devices and training. We also have a consulting function towards primary care and other operations within SkaS for rheumatological issues.

As a resident doctor with us, you will have your own clinic, with continuous support from supervisors, where you will handle new and follow-up visits. Your scheduled clinic also includes shorter times for joint injections and phone consultations. In our unit, we have access to ultrasound, which is used for diagnostic purposes as well as for some joint injections. You will be trained in basic skills and, if you wish to further your education to become independent in handling ultrasound.

The day care is staffed by nurses, with support from the consultant as needed. Patients come here to receive intravenous treatment during the day. In the clinic, the nurses also work with counseling and patient visits. A doctor has set aside time each day to answer questions that arise during the nurses' meetings with patients.

Most of the day's rheumatological care is conducted in outpatient settings. A few patients are hospitalized in medical departments, and some of these patients receive highly specialized care at the rheumatology department at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (SU) in Gothenburg. You will have the opportunity to rotate in this department for up to 5 months to learn more about highly specialized rheumatological care. During your residency, you will also work certain shifts in the emergency department and departments within the medical area during on-call hours. This is part of your rotation in internal medicine.

The collaboration with other rheumatology clinics in the Västra Götaland region works well, and we have an educational exchange with the rheumatology clinic at SU. The Västra Götaland region has a regional director for continuing education in rheumatology, and every month, the region's resident doctors in rheumatology participate in a resident afternoon at SU.

Qualifications

We are looking for you who are a licensed physician with an interest in rheumatology. Great emphasis is placed on personal suitability, where attitude and ability to collaborate are in focus.

You have an empathetic approach and work person-centered. We expect you to participate in the unit's improvement work and contribute your own innovative thoughts and ideas.
