The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, detention centers, and client transportation.

The Mariestad operational area includes the closed prison Johannesberg, the largest open prison in the country Rödjan, and the Mariestad detention center. Currently, Mariestad has about 400 employees distributed across various professional categories and competencies. Construction of a new closed prison is ongoing and is planned to be operational by 2027.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a cook with us, you will be part of a team and primarily prepare meals for the inmates, but also for a staff cafeteria that is open Monday to Friday. The newly built kitchen opened in the summer of 2025 and offers modern kitchen equipment.

The job responsibilities include all tasks typical of a large kitchen such as planning, preparation of lunch and dinner. The responsibilities also include cleaning the kitchen facilities, dishwashing, and self-control in accordance with applicable legislation. Preparation of diet food and other special diets is included. The work is done in collaboration with staff in other functions.

Some supervision of inmates may occur as we plan to offer large kitchen training for clients in the future.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for someone who is secure, stable, and self-aware. You are calm and controlled in stressful situations and collaborate well with others. You have good judgment and take responsibility for your tasks.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Restaurant or large kitchen education at the upper secondary level or other education combined with experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant
• The ability to express yourself well in spoken and written Swedish

It is an advantage if you have:

• Experience working in a large kitchen
• Experience working with self-control
• Experience working with special diets
• Category B driver's license
• Relevant language skills
