Do you have an academic education and want to become an Officer?

If you have an academic education and meet the qualifications below, you can be employed as an officer without first completing the officer training.

You will be employed as an officer at the Västernorrland Regiment with the Jämtland Field Ranger Corps, I 21, and undergo up to 20 months of studies with salary, Special Officer Training (SOFU). The structure of the training varies as it is based on your prior knowledge and upcoming tasks. Once you have completed your studies, you will begin your service at I 21. During the training, you hold the rank of cadet, and after completing and passing the training, you may be promoted to second lieutenant.

Qualifications

  • Academic education of at least 180 credits from a university or college, as well as a written thesis of at least 15 credits. Foreign degrees must be validated by UHR.
  • Completed military service or equivalent training with satisfactory results
  • Good knowledge of Swedish and English in both spoken and written form
  • Basic computer and systems knowledge
  • Driver's license for manual transmission

Personal qualities

You are responsible, adaptable to change, supportive where needed, and seek and drive tasks forward. You are resilient under stress and possess a good ability to prioritize and collaborate with others. You are flexible and see the entire Armed Forces as your workplace in a future officer career.

Great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities.

Meritorious

  • Completed group leader training in the Armed Forces with satisfactory results
  • Experience in the Armed Forces, preferably from the organization you are applying to, and good insight into what is expected of you in your upcoming position as an Officer
  • Leadership experience from professional life

Employment type: Permanent position with a 6-month probationary period.

Individual salary setting

The recruitment process includes, among other things, testing by the Duty and Testing Agency conducted in Stockholm or Malmö. During this testing, you will undergo various types of physical tests as well as an interview with a psychologist and a doctor. If you proceed in the recruitment process, you will conduct interviews and security clearance at I 21. Additional physical tests may be conducted by the recruiting organizational unit.

In 2022, the Västernorrland Regiment with the Jämtland Field Ranger Corps, I 21 was re-established. A new regiment with centuries-old traditions in Västernorrland and Jämtland. With us, you have the opportunity to be part of something unique, the re-establishment of a regiment in Lower Norrland.

I 21 currently has operations in Sollefteå, Östersund, and Härnösand and is responsible for the Lower Norrland Garrison. In Sollefteå, there is the Regimental Staff (with personnel in both Sollefteå and Östersund) and the Ångermanland Infantry Battalion. In Östersund, there is the Jämtland Field Ranger Corps. In addition, there is a Garrison Support Unit, Defense Health, and Logistics Unit with operations in Sollefteå, Östersund, and Härnösand.

At the Ångermanland Infantry Battalion and the Jämtland Field Ranger Corps, we train conscript soldiers for service in the new modern infantry under our proud motto “From mountains to sea, for the defense of Lower Norrland.”
