Operating Room Nurse at Day Surgery

The Day Surgery is located in modern facilities at Gävle Hospital. We welcome adults and children from three years old who need surgery in areas such as surgery, orthopedics, and women's health. The department has approximately 50 employees and with our own surgical planning, pediatric section, operating department with five operating rooms, and a recovery unit, we work based on a perioperative approach, meaning that patients are cared for throughout their hospital stay, from arrival to discharge. We actively work to increase patient safety and improve our workflows.

We now want to welcome an operating room nurse to our team. This is a longer temporary position initially lasting until 2027-02-28, with good chances of extension.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

You will primarily work in the operating room but also engage in pre- and post-operative tasks. Together, we create a pleasant and patient-centered environment where patient safety is always at the forefront. In the unit, we actively work on development, and you will play an important role in our collective improvement efforts.

Main Responsibilities:

• ensure that the patient feels safe before, during, and after surgery
• prepare and ensure adequate equipment for upcoming procedures
• work independently in close collaboration with the surgeon while being part of an operating team
• participate in surgeries across various specialties, with both pediatric and adult patients, providing a broad and developing knowledge area in surgical nursing
• potentially work in the recovery unit as needed.

The Day Surgery is open Monday to Thursday from 07:30 to 19:00 and Fridays from 07:30 to 16:00. We are closed on weekends and public holidays.

QUALIFICATIONS

We are looking for a positive and engaged colleague who actively contributes to a good working environment. The role requires you to be confident in your profession and able to work both independently and in a team. You have the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize your work effectively to meet given deadlines. In pressured situations, you remain calm and act professionally. You treat each patient with respect and attentiveness to their individual needs.

In the role of operating room nurse, you should:

• be a licensed nurse with specialized training in surgical nursing
• have experience in surgical operations within surgery, gynecology, and urology.

For this position, it is advantageous if you have experience in access operations and basic orthopedics.
