Do you want to help build the next generation data platform at one of the leading e-commerce companies in the Nordics?
Ellos Group is in the midst of a comprehensive data and platform transformation and is now looking for a senior Data Engineer who wants to take technical ownership and play a key role in the journey from a traditional on-prem data warehouse to a modern, cloud-based data platform in Azure and Microsoft Fabric. We warmly welcome your application!
YOUR DAY-TO-DAYAs a Data Engineer, you will be a central part of our Data & Analytics team at Ellos IT. You will work closely with our senior BI developer, who is also the product owner for BI, and together you will drive the technical direction for the data platform. The role is clearly hands-on, while you also have significant influence over architecture, technology choices, and working methods.
You will navigate the intersection between classic data warehousing and modern, event-driven flows – where microservices, Kafka, and streaming data meet established data models and business logic. Collaboration with the business, BI, Data Science, and other development teams is close, and the solutions you build are used directly in business-critical contexts.
In your role, you will, among other things:
Build, further develop, and optimize Ellos Group's new data platform in Azure/Fabric, with a strong focus on performance tuning, cost efficiency, and stable operations.
Design and develop data pipelines for both real-time and batch data, where sources such as Kafka, internal microservices, MS SQL, and Google Analytics are a natural part of the architecture.
Drive the migration from an established on-prem data warehouse to a modern cloud solution, where existing functionality is recreated, improved, and future-proofed.
Work closely with BI developers, data scientists, and product owners to ensure high data quality, clear concepts, and data models that support both analysis and business-critical processes.
The workday often begins with a joint stand-up, followed by development work, technical discussions, refinement, or workshops. The working method is agile and collaborative – whether you work from the office or remotely. We apply hybrid work with 2-3 days a week in the office in Borås.
WHO ARE YOU?You are a truly senior Data Engineer with strong technical confidence and a clear holistic perspective on modern data platforms. You thrive on taking responsibility, making architecture and technology decisions, and at the same time working hands-on to build, optimize, and maintain solutions in a production environment. You have extensive experience with cloud-based data platforms and are used to working in complex environments with large data volumes, high performance requirements, and business-critical flows.
You are comfortable with data modeling and classic data warehousing, well-versed in Kimball principles, and have a strong sense of data quality, concepts, and structure. Streaming and real-time data are a natural part of your toolbox, and you have a good understanding of architectures based on Kafka, event-driven flows, and microservices, as well as the challenges that come with scaling and cost-effective operations in the cloud.
You have a clear vision of how a modern lakehouse architecture should be built, maintained, and developed over time. You have worked practically with several different platforms and tools, both open source and commercial solutions, in both on-prem and cloud environments, and you understand their respective strengths and limitations. Your background may include work with Databricks/Delta Lake, Apache Iceberg, Hadoop/Hortonworks, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, Azure Synapse Analytics, Cloudera, or AWS Lakehouse, and you use this experience to make informed architecture and technology choices.
As a person, you are self-driven, analytical, and unpretentious. You enjoy collaborating, sharing your knowledge, and serving as a technical sounding board for both colleagues and the business. You are curious, solution-oriented, and motivated by building sustainable, long-term data solutions that are actually used and create value in the organization.
For the role, excellent knowledge of Swedish, both spoken and written, is required. You have an academic background in computer engineering, systems science, or equivalent experience.
