Kriminalvården is growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and we are now looking for more employees. Our most important goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand, and client transportation.

The Skogome area is the largest prison in Sweden for men convicted of sexual offenses in security class 2. There is also a smaller psychiatric care unit. Skogome Prison opened in 1957 and is located at Lillhagsvägen 301 on Hisingen in Gothenburg. The prison currently has about 250 employees distributed across several different professional groups and competencies. In a renovation and new construction project starting this year, the prison will have nearly double the number of places, more modern facilities, and larger spaces for treatment and activities.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

As a correctional officer, you are the foundation of the security work. You work in teams with other professionals to maintain a safe and secure environment and motivate clients towards a life without crime. Clear routines are a natural part of your daily work. You are the one who opens the door to the living quarters in the morning and locks it in the evening. You accompany clients to work and education, search and supervise the exercise yard and training facilities. But you also have daily contact with the clients to know how they are doing, and you are part of the release preparations.

Working in a prison is varied: care, surveillance, searching, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation and motivation work. You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for two weeks.

In this recruitment process, information meetings will be held to give you a better understanding of what it means to work at Skogome Prison. The information meetings will take place on four occasions, and if you are called, you need to attend one of the meetings. A separate invitation will be sent if you proceed in the process.

We will call selected candidates to information meetings during weeks 6-9.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good collaboration skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share Kriminalvården's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• A completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that Kriminalvården deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
• Good computer skills.

It is advantageous if you have:

• Work experience from corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, or health and care work.
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
• A driving license (B).
• Relevant language skills.

Kriminalvården places great importance on personal suitability.

OTHER

Kriminalvården has chosen to remove the personal letter and replace it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.
