Swedish Prison and Probation Service is Growing – We are Hiring!
The Swedish Prison and Probation Service is expanding – we are building new facilities, renovating, and adding on, and we are now looking for more employees. Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centers, and client transport.
JOB DESCRIPTION
As a correctional officer, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with clients. The tasks at the prison/remand center are varied: care, surveillance, searches, and security work are mixed with release planning and conversation/motivation work. The work at the remand center is often routine-driven and focused on care and security tasks. Clients may be detained for long periods without meeting anyone other than their lawyer and the staff at the remand center, which places special demands on you as a correctional officer.
Working as a correctional officer means you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Swedish Prison and Probation Service's fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.
QUALIFICATIONS
Your personal qualities are important. As a correctional officer, you need to be secure, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you will drive the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.
We are looking for someone who has:
- Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
- Complete upper secondary education or other training combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both spoken and written form.
- Good computer skills.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Work experience in corrections, security work, or psychiatry.
- Knowledge in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management.
- Proficiency in multiple languages.
- A valid driving license (B).
