The Early Intervention Unit is a unit within the Family Department of the Employment and Social Services Administration in Karlstad Municipality.

Within the unit, there are services such as family centers, parental support teams, support groups for children, family counseling, and the Conversation Acute Service as well as the Crisis and Violence Reception.

Since spring 2022, we have a team that offers open family support aimed at families with children who have concerning school absenteeism; it is for this service that we are now seeking two positions.

In the Early Intervention Unit, you will work with preventive measures alongside over 20 experienced and dedicated colleagues. The workgroups are supported by a case handler and a unit manager.

Job Responsibilities

We are now looking for two family therapists for our school social team – here you will have the opportunity to offer support to families with children who have problematic school absenteeism at an early stage through interventions without assistance decisions and in collaboration with the school.

Your tasks may include:

• Providing psychosocial support, motivational conversations, social training, and assistance in creating structure in daily life.
• Supporting and guiding guardians.
• Working preventively and promoting on an individual and group level, for example through parent groups and educational and informational initiatives for school staff.
• Coordinating the support the student receives from various actors.

Together with your colleagues and in collaboration with the school, you can identify areas for development and also have the opportunity to influence the design of the work based on that.

A large part of our work involves both designing and implementing support directly aimed at our families, but also collaborating around interventions/support from various stakeholders. Together with the family and school, we identify obstacles and find success factors for increased attendance at school. Collaboration skills and flexibility are important abilities to have in our workgroup. We also value experience working in teams, familiarity with working in families' home environments, and working directly with children and youth.

Qualifications

A degree in social work or another higher education qualification deemed equivalent by the employer is required. Significant value is also placed on knowledge and experience in the area of neuropsychiatric functional variations (NPF) as well as experience in close collaboration with schools. Experience in family therapy and working with children and youth with psychosocial challenges is an advantage.

In addition to competence and experience, special consideration will be given to complementing the group.

A valid driver's license (B) with a manual transmission is required. A criminal record check will be requested prior to employment.
