New Nurse for Surgical Department 2

The hospitals in the west are an administration within the Västra Götaland region and consist of four hospitals – Alingsås Hospital, Angered Local Hospital, Högsbo Local Hospital, and Kungälv Hospital. About Surgical Department 2

Surgical Department 2 is a general surgical ward that is part of the Surgery and Orthopedics operation.

In 2020, we moved into one of Sweden's most modern ward buildings. The new department has 28 single-room beds designed so that each team of nurses, nursing assistants, paramedics, and doctors has a good working environment with modern technology that provides good conditions for delivering patient-safe, person-centered care together with patients and relatives.

We primarily investigate and treat patients with acute surgical diseases in the abdomen and gastrointestinal tract, traumatic surgical injuries, and urological issues. We receive both acutely ill patients, patients coming for planned surgery, and patients needing palliative care.

We work in teams that collaborate closely with various healthcare professionals, and the department has specialist knowledge in palliative care and a mentor nurse available. We have a close collaboration with the pain team, mobile palliative team, dietitian, and local healthcare team.

New Nurse or New to Surgical Care?

Introduction

We arrange a safe and supportive shadowing experience for 4 weeks based on your needs. Your mentor will initially be by your side for support and later in the background, so you can feel secure and have the opportunity to grow into your new nursing role.

Qualifications

You are a licensed nurse; experience in surgical and/or palliative care is an advantage but not a requirement.
