Economist at the Department of Molecular Biosciences

The Department of Molecular Biosciences, Wenner-Gren Institute (MBW) conducts experimental basic research in molecular cell biology, integrative biology, and infection and immunobiology.

The research environment is characterized by modern and advanced methodologies and has a strong international profile. MBW is one of the larger departments within the Faculty of Science at Stockholm University, with about 25 research groups and approximately 160 employees, of which about 40 are doctoral students. Job Responsibilities

We are now looking for a new colleague to our administrative team where we seek an economist for a temporary position with a possible extension. We are a cheerful group of 8 people handling everything from finance, HR, communication, service to doctoral education, as well as other administrative support for the department. As an economist at MBW, you will work with accounting and financial monitoring of both research projects and other forms of grants. Job responsibilities include project budgeting, ongoing monitoring, reconciliations, forecasts, reporting, invoice management, and other general financial tasks. Other administrative tasks within the unit may also occur.

To succeed in this role, you are used to juggling “many balls in the air,” are self-driven, and can prioritize your tasks based on workload peaks. It is also an advantage if you are meticulous as a person but flexible enough to think outside the box when needed. The role involves close collaboration with both the administrative manager, colleagues in the group, and researchers at the department, which requires a positive and solution-oriented approach and that you as a person find it easy to collaborate with different roles within the department.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with several years of experience in accounting work, coding supplier invoices, and project finance, preferably from a public university or similar.

Requirements

  • Education in economics from a college/university or other education or experience deemed equivalent by the employer.
  • At least 3 years of experience in accounting and bookkeeping. Experience working with similar financial tasks as described in the advertisement.
  • Proficient in Excel and experienced in working with various financial systems/programs.
  • Can communicate well in both Swedish and English, both spoken and written, as many of our researchers are English-speaking.

Desirable

  • Experience in financial work at a public university or within a research environment is desirable.
  • Experience working in the Raindance and Primula systems is desirable.

Great emphasis will be placed on the personal qualities described above.

The position is full-time and is temporary until 2026-06-30, with a possibility of extension. Stockholm University applies individual salary setting. Start date according to agreement.
