The Role of Nursing Assistant/Care Assistant

The oncology clinic at County Hospital Ryhov is looking for summer temporary nursing assistants/care assistants for the care unit, oncology outpatient clinic, day care unit, and radiation treatment.

• As a nursing assistant/care assistant in the care unit, you will work alternately with oncology patients and patients in palliative care. You will be part of a team with doctors, nurses, and nursing assistants working from a person-centered approach. Together with a nurse, you will have the nursing responsibility for a patient group. Since we provide care around the clock, working hours may be scheduled during the day, evening, night, and weekends.
• Oncology outpatient clinic: as a nursing assistant/care assistant, you are responsible for all incoming calls where you handle and distribute calls according to routine. You will also assist with various checks and examinations. Some inventory management is also included. Working hours are during the day on weekdays.
• Day care unit: here, patients with various types of cancer diagnoses are treated. As a nursing assistant/care assistant, you work in a team with nurses and doctors. You receive outpatient patients who are to receive anti-tumor treatments. For you, this means performing basic care, measuring vital parameters, changing dressings, and assisting with piccline insertions. Some inventory management is also included. Working hours are during the day on weekdays.
• Radiation treatment: as a nursing assistant/care assistant, you work in a team with nurses, hospital physicists, and doctors. You will actively participate in patient care by assisting nurses during radiation treatment and performing basic care. After training, you will be responsible for starting up and doing morning checks on the treatment machines and irradiating blood products. You will keep order in our waiting rooms and staff rooms. Working hours are during the day on weekdays.

The summer jobs are fixed-term full-time positions. The care unit, outpatient clinic, and day care unit need summer temporary staff from week 26-33. The radiation treatment needs are during week 25-33. It is an advantage if you can work many of – or all – weeks. A regional introduction will take place in addition to these weeks, and we appreciate if you also have the opportunity to be trained in the spring.

Your Future Workplace

The oncology clinic receives patients from the entire county with cancer diseases. The clinic works with non-surgical treatment of solid tumors. Follow-up and care of patients with treatment-related side effects, patients who need to be hospitalized during treatment, and palliative patients (regardless of diagnosis) are also part of the clinic's activities.

Your Profile

For the care unit, outpatient clinic, and day care, we are looking for you who either:

• Are a trained nursing assistant or will be by June 2025
• Are studying to become a nurse or doctor. In this case, we would like you to have completed the third semester, but individual assessment may occur earlier.

For radiation treatment, we are looking for you who:

• Are studying to become a nurse, doctor, radiology nurse, or hospital physicist. In this case, we would like you to have completed the third semester, but individual assessment may occur earlier.

You work well with other people and are engaged in the personal meeting with the patient. Since we work from a person-centered approach, you need to be able to see and take care of the healthy aspects of the patient. You organize your work effectively and are meticulous. Great importance is placed on personal suitability.
