Work as a Museum Host at Forsviks bruk

The Culture Administration works for a free, rich, and strong cultural life throughout Västra Götaland. Together with municipalities, civil society, and other actors, we promote, support, and develop the region's cultural life. We also provide support to the region's cultural political bodies: the Cultural Committee and the Board for Cultural Development.

To carry out our mission with art, culture, nature, and cultural heritage, our core operations consist of two departments: Art and Culture, and Nature and Cultural Heritage, where each department is divided into several units. In the Nature and Cultural Heritage department, there are six museums and visitor destinations managed by the administration. To coordinate cross-cutting issues across the entire administration, we work in a matrix, where our work with municipalities, children and youth, collective administration, and Agenda 2030 is included.

Forsviks bruk is part of the Cultural Environment unit together with Craft & Building Conservation at Nääs. In this unit, which is responsible for the administration's work with cultural environments and cultural heritage in all municipalities of the region, about 25 employees work.

Forsviks bruk is a working life museum and visitor destination located by the Göta Canal in Karlsborg municipality, attracting 30,000 visitors annually. Industrial activities existed in Forsvik as early as the Middle Ages, and over the following centuries, it developed into an industrial environment with, among other things, a smithy, foundry, mechanical workshop, and wood grinding. Today's industrial environment, with its culturally and historically interesting and well-preserved buildings from the 18th to 20th centuries, has been a protected building since 2005. Through educational activities, exhibitions, and various events, we spark curiosity and increase knowledge about the history of the mill and Swedish industrial history. This summer, we will highlight EPA culture in the exhibition EPA-Sverige.

We collaborate with various actors and associations within the industrial area to develop Forsvik into an attractive destination with a hostel, café, as well as theater and music events. Do you want to work as a museum host with us in the 2026 season at Forsviks bruk?

We are now looking for four seasonal employees, with varying degrees of employment between 65 - 100 percent, who want to work in an industrial historical cultural heritage with a varied job as a museum host. The work includes staffing the reception, conducting tours primarily in Swedish as needed, participating in program activities, providing guidance and service to our visitors, selling in the museum shop, and overseeing the environment in the industrial area, exhibitions, and reception. In your role as a museum host, you will also practically handle some of the visitor site's machines, such as our water wheel. The tasks mean that you are the face of the visitor site and the first person our visitors meet. The work is flexible and independent. The employer provides relevant training and guidance for the work before the season.

Qualifications

You are at least 18 years old and have very good knowledge of Swedish and English. You should feel comfortable speaking in front of a group. You have completed high school and we would like you to have at least one term of academic studies in a cultural historical subject area. It is important that you can work independently, have a service mindset, and are positively inclined to take on various tasks that may arise. Experience in cash handling is an advantage. Experience as a guide or other educational experience, as well as interest in and knowledge of older technology, is also an advantage. Language skills in German are a plus.

We will conduct interviews starting from week 7.

Weekend work is included in the position.
