The Role of a Resident Physician

Our patients have chronic diseases that affect various aspects of life and therefore need a team that works together with them consisting of doctors, nurses, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, and social workers. As a resident physician, you will primarily work in outpatient care and gain extensive experience within the specialty. The position includes investigating, treating, and following up on patients with various types of rheumatic diseases. You will be part of a team-oriented workgroup and work closely with other professionals.

Your Future Workplace

The Rheumatology Clinic at Ryhov County Hospital in Jönköping has been part of the Department of Medicine since autumn 2016 and is responsible for all activities within rheumatology in the Region of Jönköping County. The operations are mainly conducted in Jönköping but with team activities in Värnamo and Eksjö/Nässjö. Rheumatology is undergoing exciting development with expanded treatment options using advanced medications. Better and earlier diagnostics today provide great opportunities for effective treatment. The clinic handles all types of inflammatory rheumatic diseases.

Your Profile

You are a licensed physician who is about to start a residency with an interest in rheumatology and teamwork. You should master the Swedish language in both spoken and written form, at least at C1 level according to the Council of Europe's scale. You have an interest in working with quality and improvement efforts. We place great emphasis on personal suitability and value the ability to collaborate, flexibility, and interest in development highly. Your ability to plan and work independently is good, and you can prioritize based on the best interests of the organization.

As a resident physician, we offer you a broad education in rheumatology, which includes individual supervision and knowledge transfer as a natural part of the work. You will participate and play an active role in the development of our treatment methods and in our quality work. Work schedules are planned together with supervisors, and parts may be allocated at a university clinic, but the main placement is in Jönköping. The Region of Jönköping County is responsible for providing courses for all A- and B-goals according to the ST-ab concept. Supervisor training for both supervisors and resident physicians is included in the course. During ST-ab, there are also opportunities to conduct your own quality and development work.
