Welcome to the Department of Clinical Sciences at Gothenburg University! The Department of Clinical Sciences, along with five other departments, is part of the Sahlgrenska Academy. Here, research and education focus on human health and quality of life. The Department of Clinical Sciences is organized into four sections and 16 different subject areas.
The position of professor is located at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Department of Clinical Sciences, Sahlgrenska Academy. Within the subject area, extensive research is conducted on women's reproductive health and diseases. The research includes clinical, experimental, and epidemiological studies and is conducted at local, national, and international levels. Representatives of the subject of obstetrics and gynecology also participate in several of the faculty's educational programs.

Subject Description
The subject area of the professorship is obstetrics and gynecology. Obstetrics and gynecology encompass the diagnosis and treatment of diseases and conditions of the female reproductive organs, reproductive health, management of both normal and complicated pregnancies and deliveries, as well as the investigation and treatment of infertility in both women and men.
Responsibilities
The responsibilities include conducting research within the subject area at a nationally and internationally competitive level. The research should contribute to the development of knowledge and innovation in the field, preferably within translational research environments that strengthen the link between basic research and clinical application. The appointee is expected to initiate, lead, and carry out research projects and publish results in high-quality international scientific journals. Furthermore, the appointee should actively seek and obtain external research funding from national and international funders, as well as work to create sustainable and competitive research environments.
Initially, the responsibilities include being the course leader for the KUL course and the elective course in obstetrics and gynecology during semester 11 of the medical program, as well as the overall responsibility for the department's coordination with the midwifery program. The assignment also includes the development of the examination activities for obstetrics and gynecology during semester 9 and being an examiner for the obstetrics and gynecology course according to a rotating schedule. This assignment includes working on linking learning objectives, teaching, and examination together with the main course leaders.
Following a decision by the organization, at a time deemed appropriate after taking office, the appointee will transition to the main course leader responsibility for teaching, course responsibility, and examination in courses at both undergraduate and advanced levels within the medical program and other educational programs in which the department participates. The appointee will then be the main course leader for all teaching involving various aspects of gynecology and obstetrics for a period of at least five years.
The position also includes shared responsibility as the semester leader for semester 9, as well as course leader for obstetrics and gynecology together with other teachers in the department. This responsibility applies to the part of the education that constitutes the new semester 9 of the medical program, according to a rotating schedule.
Additionally, the position includes supervision of students, residents, and doctoral students at all educational levels, as well as mentorship in teaching projects for associate professorship. The responsibilities also include developing and coordinating learning objectives, learning activities, pedagogical methods, examination formats, and assessment criteria in relation to course content and the overall purpose of the education.
The appointee is also expected to perform other tasks normally associated with a professorship, such as administrative duties and internal and external positions of trust. The position also includes collaboration with the surrounding community.
The clinical service will be adapted to the organization's needs for the intended appointee's skills and experiences, corresponding to approximately one-third of the position.
Eligibility
Eligibility for appointment as a teacher is specified in the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's employment regulations. According to the Higher Education Act Chapter 3, Section 8, a combined appointment can only be held by someone who meets the eligibility requirements for both positions.
Eligible for appointment as a professor is someone who has demonstrated scientific and pedagogical competence. A medical degree and specialist competence in obstetrics and gynecology are required for the position.
The position is combined with an appointment as a senior physician at Sahlgrenska University Hospital (SU), and therefore it is required that, according to the National Board of Health and Welfare, one has the necessary knowledge of Swedish, Danish, or Norwegian for the profession to obtain Swedish medical licensure.
