Your role with us

As the unit manager for the sustainability unit, you are responsible for leading and developing sustainability efforts in the municipality. You play an important role in collaborating with other municipal operations, elected officials, government agencies, entrepreneurs, and non-profit actors. You will work strategically and operationally to achieve the municipality's goals for sustainable community development.

You will have personnel, financial, work environment, and operational responsibility for seven employees. The role also includes actively working on operational development. As a unit manager, you report to the department head and are part of the department's management team.

Together with your employees, you will develop the strategic work with the aim of creating a cohesive, clear, and effective structure for governance, management, and follow-up of the overarching sustainability work. A key part of this is to build relationships and create strong collaborations within and outside the municipal organization.

To meet the vision 2030, a present leadership is required. A manager represents the municipality as an employer in all contexts. With the focus on municipal residents, the leader leads, motivates, and develops their employees to create added value for Kristianstad municipality.

Who are we looking for?

You who are applying have completed higher education in environmental science, social science, sustainable development, or other education that the employer deems equivalent. We want you to have long and broad experience in working with sustainable development. Experience in driving strategic sustainability work is required for the role. Previous work with cross-sector collaboration is also a requirement. Experience working in a politically governed organization is a prerequisite for the position. We would like you to have leadership experience. It is an advantage if you also have experience in externally funded project activities.

Of course, you handle IT tools as a natural part of your work. For the position, it is required that you have very good communication skills in Swedish, both spoken and written. If you also feel comfortable communicating in English, both spoken and written, that is an advantage. For us, it is a plus if you have a B driver's license to easily get around the municipality when needed.

You find it easy to collaborate and lead others by building good relationships. You are good at driving development, seeing opportunities, have the ability to see the whole in complex processes, and the courage to make decisions as well as achieve results. You are transparent and open and see differences as a strength.

The sustainability unit leads, supports, and enables the transition to sustainable development in Kristianstad municipality and for all who live and work here. The unit has an overarching strategic responsibility for sustainability issues and works in areas such as environmental strategy, climate strategy and climate adaptation, safety and crime prevention measures, collaboration with the non-profit sector, energy and climate advice, and EU coordination.

In addition, the unit is responsible for the larger assignments Climate Neutral Kristianstad 2030 and Urban Development Näsby. The sustainability unit is part of the community development department at the municipal executive office, together with the units for land and exploitation as well as biosphere and nature center.

The municipal executive office is responsible for strategically leading, coordinating, and developing the municipality's operations. Here, functions such as finance, HR, IT, communication, citizen center, business, tourism, and shared services are included. With our approximately 700 engaged employees, we operate under the leadership of the municipal council to create positive development for everyone in our municipality.
