At the Nature Conservation Unit, we primarily handle cases for assessment, consultation, and supervision. This may involve permits in protected areas, Natura 2000 permits, species protection exemptions, consultations according to Chapter 12, Section 6 of the Environmental Code, and off-road driving permits. The unit is also responsible for coordinating outdoor recreation efforts as well as work against invasive alien species. Within the unit, we also work with local nature conservation projects (LONA) where municipalities apply for funding to carry out nature conservation projects. Currently, there are 14 employees in the Nature Conservation Unit, and we are now looking for a colleague.
About the job
As a nature conservation officer, you will primarily work with the processing of cases for assessment, consultation, and supervision within the Environmental Code area. You will work with a wide range of cases, making the work varied. You will work independently but will be part of a team of ten people who have similar tasks and where support and dialogue occur in daily work. In the team, we work without prestige, with a focus on development, and we have fun together! At selected times, there is the opportunity to be out in the field, but the majority of the work takes place in the office.
The cases you will handle include, for example, permits in protected areas, species protection exemptions, and consultations according to Chapter 12, Section 6 of the Environmental Code. You will also be involved in many other cases handled by the County Administrative Board, such as community planning, wind power, and mining activities.
The work is constantly evolving, and based on our assignment, the tasks may change over time. Therefore, you need to be able to handle changes. At the same time, this gives you opportunities to develop and both broaden and deepen your competence with us.
About you
We are looking for someone who has:
- Post-secondary education with a natural science focus, such as a biologist, ecologist, limnologist, forest engineer, or other relevant education for the position.
- Experience in similar tasks
- Experience working according to routines and regulations
- Good ability to communicate clearly, simply, and understandably in Swedish, both orally and in writing.
As a person, you have an interest in and care for nature and biological diversity. You are structured and flexible. You have the ability to see the whole rather than getting stuck in details. You are confident in yourself and work without prestige. You can independently drive your own cases but also enjoy collaborating in a group.
It is an advantage if you have:
- Good knowledge of the Environmental Code.
- Good knowledge of species, preferably with expertise in a specific group/area
- Knowledge of species protection legislation
- Experience in public authority exercise Knowledge of the conditions for nature and culture in the north.
- In-depth knowledge of limnology

Good to know
We use a six-month probationary period.
If you are called for an interview, you may be asked to complete a work sample.
