Welcome to Löfstad Castle! The castle, built in the 17th century, is today a popular and highly appreciated destination with events and activities year-round. Guided tours, exhibitions, Midsummer celebrations, Christmas markets, theater evenings, study circles, family activities in the park, and much more are organized here. There is also a castle shop. Since 1942, the castle has been a museum operated by the Östergötland Museum. The area also features an inn and a garden center with a café, both run by other entrepreneurs in close collaboration with the museum. The castle is surrounded by a large English park established in the 19th century by Sophie von Fersen, a baroque garden, and a courtyard.
About the position
As a park and garden caretaker at Löfstad Castle, you will take care of all outdoor environments so that our visitors are greeted by a welcoming, tidy, and safe environment year-round. The tasks vary with the seasons, including planting, lawn mowing, hedge trimming, weeding, trimming, leaf blowing, snow removal, and ice control.
You are part of the team that manages all activities at Löfstad Castle, but you take significant personal responsibility to see what needs to be done in the outdoor environment and gardens at any given time and to carry it out so that the external environment is always representative. You are happy to stop and answer questions from our visitors, helping them find their way and thus contributing to their experience of Löfstad Castle.
You work closely with the property and park manager at the castle, and together you perform simpler repair, maintenance, and property work such as maintaining outdoor furniture, preparing for events, clearing fallen trees, painting windows and doors, some exhibition work, or simpler carpentry in the castle's premises – Löfstad offers many varied tasks!
The position includes some on-call duties for tasks such as snow removal.
Qualifications
- Education and/or previous experience in green space maintenance/gardening
- Experience operating machinery such as tractors and front mowers
- B driver's license
- Good knowledge of the Swedish language
Meritorious:
- Post-secondary education in gardening, green heritage, or another relevant field
- Education and/or experience in property maintenance/carpentry
- Certification for chainsaw, brush cutter, aerial lift, and fall protection
We are looking for a handy problem solver who sees what needs to be done and takes responsibility for getting it done. You are meticulous and quality-conscious, ensuring that outdoor and park environments maintain a high standard and enjoy working outdoors in all weather conditions year-round. You are flexible and unpretentious, stepping in to help your colleagues when needed. You see opportunities for improvements and development of the park and outdoor environment from both a historical perspective and the visitor's viewpoint.
Great emphasis will be placed on personal suitability.
