The Culture and Leisure Administration is responsible for Klostret in Ystad, Ystad Art Museum, Ystad Library, Youth House, Culture School, Marietorp Nature School, Ystad Arena Bad and halls, Nybrostrandsbadet, and sports facilities, as well as close contact with the association life. About 100 employees work here to create good conditions for a stimulating and active leisure and a rewarding, enriching cultural life for the residents of Ystad.

Klostret in Ystad is a city historical museum housed in a Franciscan monastery from the 13th century. The museum is also responsible for an object storage. Museum activities such as pedagogy, programs, and exhibitions are based on the monastery building and the collections managed by the museum.

JOB DESCRIPTION

We are looking for an engaged museum technician who wants to work with us at the monastery to develop exhibition productions in a unique cultural historical environment. In the role of technician, you have a key role in collaboration with all staff. In addition to planning and building exhibitions and carefully handling museum objects in exhibitions and storage, it also includes working practically to preserve, care for, and develop the museum's cultural environments. The role includes building maintenance, certain property maintenance, and technical support during exhibitions and events. The position is central to the long-term work of ensuring that cultural heritage is preserved and made accessible for the future.

Your main tasks will be:

Museum Technical Work

  • Participate in planning and implementation of exhibitions (construction, assembly, lighting, dismantling).
  • Handle and install technical equipment (sound, light, video, digital installations).
  • Be responsible for technical operation, service, and maintenance of exhibitions and the museum's fixed equipment.
  • Manage transportation, packing, and unpacking of art and museum objects according to applicable safety procedures.
  • Assist in designing mounting solutions, signage, and visitor environments.
  • Support other staff with technical questions during events, tours, and productions.
  • Contribute to the development of sustainable and safe working methods within the museum's technical area.

Cultural Environment Management

  • Perform and coordinate practical care and maintenance measures in cultural historical buildings.
  • Participate in planning and implementation of restorations in cultural environments.
  • Contribute to risk assessment and emergency planning for the preservation of cultural environments.
  • Collaborate with conservators, building care specialists, and property management regarding the museum's premises.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

  • High school or post-secondary education in a relevant field, e.g., exhibition technology, craftsmanship/carpentry, building preservation, electrical/sound/light, or equivalent as assessed by the employer.

Experience:

  • Experience in technical work within the museum sector, object handling, and exhibition production.
  • Experience in practical work with cultural environments, building preservation, or property maintenance.
  • Experience in craftsmanship or knowledge of restoration projects is an advantage.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Practical skills in carpentry and construction, electrical, light, sound, and AV technology.
  • Ability to produce own drawings and work from technical sketches.
  • Familiarity with workplace safety regulations, safety, and lifting techniques.
  • Knowledge of traditional materials and construction methods.
  • Computer skills and documentation ability.
  • Forklift driving skills are an advantage.
  • A valid driver's license (B) is required.

Other:

  • The work involves forklift work, work at heights, outdoor work, heavy lifting, and transportation.
  • Some on-call duty, weekend or evening work may occur.
