Our primary goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the vicious cycle. If we succeed, society will be safer and more secure for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand detention, and client transport.

Viskan Prison is a closed prison that began receiving inmates in March 2025. The largest professional group is prison officers, but healthcare professionals, administrative staff, educators, production leaders, etc., also work here. The inmates are engaged in education, various treatment programs, or industrial production. Viskan Prison is easiest to reach by car, and staff parking is available.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Working as a prison officer means that you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. As a prison officer in the Viskan area, you will be part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. The tasks at the prison are varied and include care, surveillance, searches, security, conversation/motivation work, and planning for the client's execution. Viskan is in a process of building more client places, and the work may also involve tasks such as construction watch and escorting craftsmen.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction over three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the mandatory basic training for the Swedish Prison and Probation Service, which lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary throughout the training period. During the probationary period, ongoing assessments will be conducted regarding your eligibility for permanent employment.

QUALIFICATIONS

Your personal qualities are important to us. As a prison officer, you need to be secure, stable, and have good self-awareness. Since you will be running the operations together with your colleagues, you need to have good cooperation skills and the ability to communicate clearly. Good judgment and integrity are required in your professional practice. You must have a physical condition that enables you to act physically when the situation requires it.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, part-time employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not considered equivalent to employment.
• Completed upper secondary education or other education combined with work experience that the Swedish Prison and Probation Service deems relevant.
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing.
• Good computer skills.
• Driver's license (B).

It is an advantage if you have:

• Work experience in corrections, security work, social care, psychiatry, educational work, or healthcare and social work.
• Education in relevant fields, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, or conflict management.
• Other language skills besides Swedish and English.

OTHER

The Swedish Prison and Probation Service has chosen to remove the personal letter and replace it with selection questions that are relevant to the position. The answers to the selection questions and CV will form the basis for whether you are qualified to proceed in the process.
