Academic Advisor at Blekinge Institute of Technology

Blekinge Institute of Technology is one of Sweden's most distinctly profiled universities, focusing on the digitalization of society and sustainability. We are now looking for a new employee who wants to help develop our operations. Does this sound like your future?

BTH is recruiting an academic advisor for the Student Support function, where academic advising is part of the operations. Student Support works to ensure that BTH's students have good conditions to complete their studies. The Student Support team includes targeted pedagogical support, counseling support, academic advising, study workshops, and international coordinators.

Responsibilities

As an academic advisor, you will guide and support admitted and prospective students through counseling sessions, study planning, and follow-up. We work according to guidelines for academic advisors, and the job requires good knowledge and the ability to apply current regulations. The work includes both individual conversations and various types of group interventions, such as lectures on study techniques. Your responsibilities also include working proactively with contact efforts towards the university's students and teachers, in collaboration with other employees. You will closely cooperate with program coordinators and program leaders at the university's departments.

Your responsibilities also include working in the university's study workshop to support students in academic writing and study techniques. This involves tailored supervision, being available for students through drop-in services, lectures, and providing information to students about academic writing (for example, skrivguiden.se). The needs of the students are always the focus of the student support operations.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with a degree in academic advising or another equivalent education with an interest in academic writing. Great emphasis will be placed on your personal qualities, such as being service-oriented, structured, flexible, having good communication skills, and being proficient in both Swedish and English. You should be able to collaborate easily and enjoy working both independently and in a group. Documented experience in academic advising from a university or college is an advantage.
