Section Leader for the Infectious Diseases Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital

Together, we are developing Sahlgrenska University Hospital for a sustainable future. We are transforming healthcare with the goal of becoming Europe’s leading university hospital by 2032. Together with patients, we work for quality, accessibility, patient safety, research, education, and innovation – within a cohesive healthcare system in the Västra Götaland region. Our vision and goals aim for care of the highest quality, where the patient is always in focus. We provide healthcare locally and regionally, but also highly specialized care to patients across the country and abroad. Our employees are our strength and contribute to knowledge exchange nationally and internationally. With digital tools and new working methods, we can simplify everyday life at the hospital and offer modern, accessible, and effective care of the highest quality.

Do you want to work as a section leader in a team where knowledge, development, and care are at the center?

Operations – combining breadth and depth

The Infectious Diseases Clinic at Sahlgrenska University Hospital is a dynamic workplace where care, research, and development go hand in hand. With us, you don’t just get a job – you get a meaningful career where you make a difference every working day.

At the Infectious Diseases Clinic, there are four wards with a total of 54 beds and a large outpatient clinic with both emergency and planned activities. Here, patients with various suspected or confirmed infectious diseases are treated. Common diagnoses include pneumonia, sepsis, complicated infections in the lower respiratory tract or soft tissues, infections of the heart valves, or in the stomach/intestines. We also care for patients who are carriers of multidrug-resistant bacteria or require isolation care for other reasons, as well as patients with more classic infectious diagnoses such as malaria, measles, and tuberculosis.

Ward 303 – where the future of infectious disease care takes shape

Ward 303 is an infectious diseases ward with a special focus on children, pregnant women, and new mothers – but adults are also cared for here. It is a versatile and educational environment where you will work closely with both the children's and women's clinics while developing your skills in broad infectious disease care. In December, we will launch the project “IK Nära” in the ward, an outpatient service for patients with complicated infections requiring long treatment.

Job Responsibilities

As a section leader, you will report directly to the unit manager and be part of the ward's management team. In consultation with the unit manager and fellow section leaders, we work together for good care, high patient safety, and continuous improvement of care quality.

A significant part of the job is to act as a supervisor for the staff working in the ward. You need to have the ability to overview, prioritize, and organize work, as well as support and guide colleagues in the same. Additional specific tasks include:

  • Be responsible for the introduction and training of new staff and act as a mentor during their initial time in the ward.
  • As the personnel manager, be responsible for short-term recruitment (emergency gaps, other absences).
  • In collaboration with the unit manager, participate in the design of the ward's staff meetings, planning, and training days.
  • Be responsible for updating, implementing, and following up on the ward's routines and documents.
  • Actively work to ensure that the unit follows basic hygiene routines and other healthcare hygiene directives.
  • In consultation with the unit manager, be responsible for the continuous identification, planning, and coordination of training needs for all employees.
  • Distribute and update employees' own areas of responsibility.

Qualifications

We are looking for a licensed nurse with experience in the profession. Great importance is placed on your ability to lead, good collaboration skills, and ease in building relationships. You should be able to overview and prioritize both your own tasks and those of the staff working in the ward. You are used to taking your own initiatives and can organize work independently. Personal suitability is highly valued.

Employment Type

Permanent employment as a nurse with a fixed-term assignment as a section leader (three years). The section leader assignment will be extended or concluded after a joint review. The position is 100% and is divided between administrative and clinical work.

Warm welcome to submit your application!
