Environmental Inspector Wanted for Kumla and Hallsberg
We are looking for an experienced environmental inspector who wants to help further develop the environmental protection work in Kumla and Hallsberg.
The position is located within the Environmental Unit, which is part of the collaborative organization for environmental and construction activities in Kumla and Hallsberg. Our employees are employed by Kumla Municipality but work in both municipalities. Together, the municipalities have approximately 38,800 inhabitants, good growth, and a high demand for both housing and space for new business establishments, creating conditions for a wide range of exciting challenges within the supervision area.
The mission of the Environmental Unit is to guide the municipalities' citizens and businesses in the work for sustainable community development through supervision and advice.
At the Environmental Unit, we have 13 inspectors, one administrator, and one environmental manager. The unit's employees have a broad competence in environmental protection, health protection, and food safety, and you are welcome to a workplace with engaged and competent colleagues where we work together to develop and take responsibility for our common missions and goals. We offer you a varied and stimulating job with many contacts inside and outside our organization. We encourage our employees to continuous professional development, and within the unit, there is an ongoing change process towards increased digitalization, higher legal certainty, and more efficient working methods that you will contribute to.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
We are looking for an environmental inspector for supervision and handling incoming cases within the environmental protection area, primarily based on the Environmental Code.
In the role of environmental inspector, you will, among other things, handle cases, plan and conduct inspection visits, respond to referrals, and manage follow-ups, write reports, and formulate decision documents. As we strive to achieve good service quality for our operators and citizens, information and advice are also a significant part of our mission.
As an inspector, you will work both independently with great responsibility and in close collaboration with your colleagues in the field. You will draft your own service writings and decisions, as well as provide information, guidance, and advice to entrepreneurs and the public. The work is varied, and you will work both in the office and out in the field with inspections.
We have extensive delegation from the committees, which means that you will make your own decisions. Other parts of your work will include preparing and presenting your cases to our politicians and participating in the municipality's community planning.
The organization requires flexibility, which means that the tasks may change over time. Therefore, the position can also be adapted to some extent based on your previous experiences.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone with at least three years of university education focused on environmental and health protection, environmental science, or other education deemed equivalent by the employer. If you have previously worked as an environmental consultant, environmental inspector, or environmental engineer and want to work on issues that make a difference, this is the job for you! It is an advantage if you have experience with similar tasks as described above or if you have work experience from other areas included in the Environmental Unit's supervision, or if you have experience applying the Environmental Code or other relevant legislation.
To succeed in this role, you need to have knowledge and experience of the authority role and feel secure in it. You should be able to collaborate effectively with others and work independently, as well as have a good ability to plan and prioritize your time independently. You are adaptable to changing conditions and open to change and organizational development.
Customer service is essential for achieving good long-term results, so you need to have good social skills and be able to meet people in a professional and service-oriented manner, both internally and externally, as well as in speech and writing. For example, to communicate decision-making grounds in a pedagogical and trustworthy manner or to be able to give and receive help. You have good computer skills and can produce investigation materials and well-written documents.
Since we work with supervision, we consider it important that you can remain calm and stable even in pressured situations. It is essential that you can prioritize service and adapt your behavior to create a good reception and build trustworthy relationships to balance the authority exercise and the more advisory role. We place great emphasis on personal qualities.
The position requires a B driver's license for manual transmission, as well as good knowledge of Swedish and English.
Welcome with your application!
