All students have the right to a school that provides them the opportunity to develop according to their own conditions. SPSM operates schools on behalf of the state. We offer students a learning environment that provides them with opportunities for participation, learning, and development. We offer meaningful, stimulating, and important pedagogical work in our schools.
Birgittaskolan in Örebro offers bilingual education in a sign language environment for students from preschool to grade 10. Our students receive instruction in both Swedish sign language and written Swedish. We provide accommodation for students who cannot commute to school every day.
Birgittaskolan is a state special school for students who are deaf or have hearing impairments. The school is located in Örebro and accepts students from the counties of Dalarna, Södermanland, Värmland, Västmanland, Örebro, and Östergötland. For students who cannot commute to school daily, Birgittaskolan offers student housing.
We provide our students with an environment that allows for participation and development. Everyone can engage in social interactions, feel a sense of belonging, and develop as individuals in a bilingual education in a sign language environment.
At Birgittaskolan, we have excellent access to various professionals in our student health team and digital learning tools in a well-equipped IT environment.
Åsbackaskolan accepts students from all over Sweden who are deaf or have hearing impairments combined with intellectual disabilities or are congenitally deafblind and who follow adapted elementary school curricula in subject areas. Our overarching goal is to provide all our students with the conditions to learn and to live as independently as possible. We place great emphasis on developing students' desire for social interaction, collaboration, and communication in a sign language environment.
We provide our students with an environment that allows for participation and development. Everyone can engage in social interactions, feel a sense of belonging, and develop as individuals in a bilingual education in a sign language environment.
We are about 100 employees working in the schools or in our student accommodations.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
As a substitute teacher, you may work in various areas at Birgittaskolan and Åsbackaskolan as well as in after-school care. For example, there may be a need for substitutes as teaching assistants or as teachers. You will be available when there is a need at short notice. Being available in this way means that a new employment relationship begins each time you are called upon to work. Offers for such temporary employment are usually made verbally. You have the right to decline assignments offered to you.
QUALIFICATIONS
We are looking for someone who:
- is flexible and has the ability to take initiative
- has experience working with students who are deaf or have hearing impairments
- can communicate in Swedish sign language
It is advantageous if you have:
- experience interacting with other cultures
- experience working with children with neuropsychiatric disorders
- experience working with students who are congenitally deafblind
IT SKILLS
We have access to interactive whiteboards in all classrooms, so experience and knowledge in handling such tools is advantageous.

OTHER
A background check must be presented before employment.
