Nature Guides for Naturum Kullaberg

The County Administrative Board of Skåne is a government authority at the regional level responsible for state administration in the county. We work to ensure that national goals are implemented in the county based on regional conditions. Within our assignments, we provide advice, permits, and supervision, as well as plans and strategies. We manage natural areas and distribute financial support. We collaborate with stakeholders throughout the county.

We have approximately 600 employees and offices in Malmö and Kristianstad.

Description

The County Administrative Board is seeking five nature guides for Naturum Kullaberg.

The position is a seasonal employment until approximately November 30, with some possibility of extension. Work is primarily scheduled. During spring and autumn, you will mainly work weekends, about 1-3 weekends per month. Weekdays may occur. In the summer, you will work part-time, both weekdays and weekends. Start date in March or as agreed.

There are 32 naturum in Sweden, from Abisko in the north to Öresund in the south. We have a fantastic and important mission, namely to awaken people's interest in nature and contribute to nature contact! Through various forms of nature guidance, we aim to inspire and increase knowledge about nature, the environment, and human impact on nature, as well as inspire sustainable outdoor life. Here, the visitor is in focus! Everyone is welcome here, regardless of background or prior knowledge. Our guiding principles are “accessible, inspiring, and welcoming”.

Naturum Kullaberg is a visitor center for Kullaberg Nature Reserve in northwestern Skåne. The dramatic nature with cliffs and sea attracts many visitors each year. At Naturum, there is an exhibition about Kullaberg Nature Reserve with a reception, a small shop, and saltwater aquariums showing life beneath the surface. Visitors receive tips on excursion destinations and outdoor activities, as well as opportunities to participate in nature guidance through exhibitions, program activities, and guided tours. Marine biology and sustainable outdoor life are particularly important topics for the operation. July and August are peak season with sometimes very high visitor pressure.

Responsibilities

Naturum Kullaberg offers you the opportunity to work in a fantastically beautiful place, among cliffs and sea, porpoises, and seabirds. You will be part of the County Administrative Board's team of nature guides and conservationists at Kullaberg Nature Reserve. You will have great opportunities to shape your nature guidance according to your interests and discuss important environmental issues with visitors.

As a seasonal nature guide, you will staff the information desk, exhibition, and shop at Naturum. This includes the following tasks:

  • Welcome and engage visitors with curiosity and enthusiasm.
  • Provide nature guidance about Kullabygden's nature, cultural history, and outdoor life, as well as environmental issues in a broader perspective.
  • Contribute with guided tours and activities that enrich the visitor's experience.
  • Communicate about nature and cultural environments in Kullabygden, both on-site and digitally.
  • Convey knowledge about current conservation issues and connections to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
  • Guide booked groups and school classes.
  • Maintain and clean the exhibition space and aquariums at Naturum.

Independent work occurs with full responsibility for staffing the naturum.

Qualifications

We are looking for someone with good knowledge of nature, outdoor life, and environmental issues. You want to inspire others to discover nature. We believe you are studying or have studied natural sciences, nature tourism, human ecology, or other relevant subjects.

As a person, you are service-oriented and appreciate meeting and conversing with people. You can work independently and are not hesitant to take your own initiatives and be creative regarding the activities offered to visitors. Your hospitality and ability to convey knowledge are as important as your expertise. You feel comfortable adapting your communication, both verbally and in writing, to target groups with varying levels of prior knowledge, both in Swedish and English. You are organized, easy to collaborate with, and capable of working practically and independently in unforeseen situations.

You may have specialized knowledge in the following areas, but it is not a requirement:

  • marine biology.
  • birdwatching or other specialized knowledge of fauna and flora.
  • conservation work and ecosystem management.
  • communication, social media, and information dissemination.
  • experience working with or education in nature guidance or nature tourism.
  • good local knowledge of Kullabygden and Kullaberg Nature Reserve.

Security Classification

The County Administrative Board has an important coordinating role during societal disturbances, and therefore we place high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. Some of our positions are security classified and may also involve a military placement at the authority, which means that a security review must be conducted before a hiring decision is made. In some cases, Swedish citizenship is required in accordance with the Security Protection Act (2018:585).
