About the workplace: A naturum is a center for visitors to a natural area. At a naturum, visitors can get more information about the nature in the area, the species present, and how visitors can best experience the area. There are about thirty naturums around Sweden. Naturum Ottenby is located in Ottenby fyrby on the southern tip of Öland and is part of the Ot­tenby nature reserve. The naturum features an exhibition that provides insight into the amazing lives of birds and tells about the Ottenby nature reserve and the activities of the Ottenby bird station. In addition to the exhibition, Naturum Ottenby also offers visitors several guided tours and events aimed at enriching the nature experience for visitors. Naturum Ottenby is operated by BirdLife Sweden on behalf of the County Administrative Board of Kalmar County.

Responsibilities: As a naturum host and guide, you are the face of Naturum Ottenby and man the naturum's exhibition space and information desk. You welcome all visitors with a smile and inform and inspire them about nature and culture in general and Ottenby's birds, nature, and history in particular. Together with the other naturum staff on site, you are also responsible for carrying out the naturum's daily program activities. The program activities include nature and culture guided tours and activities for visitors of all ages. The position also includes some administrative tasks, selling tickets for guided tours, and cleaning the premises. The work will be done in close collaboration with the manager of Naturum Ottenby and other staff on site, both at the naturum and at other activities on the tip. Weekend work is included in any period of employment.

Qualifications: We are looking for someone with a strong interest in nature and birds who enjoys sharing their knowledge with others! It is a plus if you are studying or have completed studies in natural sciences and/or educational studies with a focus on natural sciences at a college/university, or have acquired similar knowledge in another way. Good knowledge in ornithology, biology, ecology, geology is also advantageous. We expect you to be able to express yourself well in Swedish both verbally and in writing. Ottenby is visited annually by people from all over the world, so you should be proficient in English. Knowledge of additional languages is a plus. Experience in naturum activities, guiding, and other educational activities is also advantageous. Good local knowledge of Öland and the Ottenby nature reserve is a bonus!

Good teamwork skills are essential as the naturum is managed by a small staff. You should have social competence with a good sense of service in dealing with both young and adult visitors. You should be responsible, outgoing, initiative, and flexible while also being meticulous and having a sense of order. It is important that you can work independently as you may work alone at times. Solo work occurs with full responsibility for opening and closing.
