Prison and Probation Services are growing – we are building new facilities, renovating, and expanding, and are now looking for more employees. Our main goal is to reduce recidivism – to break the cycle of crime. If we succeed, society will become safer for everyone. We are the authority responsible for prisons, probation, remand centres, and client transports.

Job Description

As a prison officer, you are part of a team where you have daily contact with the client. Working in the transport unit means that your main task is to transport individuals deprived of their liberty, on behalf of the Prison and Probation Services and other authorities. The work also includes surveillance during, for example, court hearings and hospital visits. The varied assignments mean that working hours may vary from day to day.

Working as a prison officer means that you can make a difference for other people and contribute to a better society. To thrive and succeed in your role, it is important that you share the Prison and Probation Services' fundamental values of a humane view of humanity, respect for the individual, and the belief that people can develop.

You will start your employment at the workplace where you will receive an introduction for three weeks. After a period of service, you will be offered a place in the basic training for prison officers, which is mandatory and lasts for 8 weeks. You will receive a salary during the entire training period. Continuous assessments for your possibility of permanent employment will be carried out during the probationary period.

Qualifications

Your personal qualities are important. As a prison officer, you need to be confident, stable, have good self-awareness, sound judgment, and integrity. Together with your colleagues, you run the operations, so you need to have good teamwork skills and be clear in your communication. You should be able to act physically when required.

We are looking for someone who has:

• Work experience, including seasonal work, hourly employment, or self-employment. Internships and volunteer work are not equivalent to employment
• A complete high school education or other education combined with work experience that the Prison and Probation Services deems relevant
• Good knowledge of the Swedish language in both speech and writing
• Good computer skills
• A driver's license for manual transmission vehicles and driving experience

It is advantageous if you have:

• Work experience in prison services, security work, social care, psychiatry, or healthcare
• Knowledge in relevant areas, such as behavioral science, criminology, psychiatry, law, and conflict management
• Relevant language skills

We have high demands on our employees' security and confidentiality awareness. Therefore, we conduct a security check before deciding on your employment with us. Some positions are classified as security-sensitive, and in such cases, we conduct a security assessment with a registry check before making an employment decision. For positions with higher security classification, you need to be a Swedish citizen, but you are welcome to have a foreign background.

The employment includes mandatory prison officer training. It may be conducted in another location. Prison and Probation Services operate around the clock, all year round. This means that you will work days, evenings, and weekends. Some schedules involve night work.
