Your upcoming role As a train attendant at SJ, you play a central role for our travelers, ensuring they feel safe, cared for, and delivering first-class service. In this role, you are expected to quickly adapt to new directives and follow routines to ensure safety and service on board. As a train attendant in Östersund, you will also receive special training for extended safety tasks such as separating and assembling trains and assisting the driver during reversing maneuvers. These are critical tasks that require your full attention in all weather conditions.

The role involves:

• Conducting safety checks before boarding and alighting and managing any emergencies that may arise
• Actively communicating with travelers, both directly and via announcements
• Enjoying working independently but also as part of a team
• Working shifts, including weekends, nights, and overnight stays in other locations
• Handling sales and service in the bistro
• Understanding and processing extensive information, such as safety regulations, job descriptions, and regular updates

Expectations for the candidate we seek You are a person with a strong focus on safety, solution-oriented, and have an easy time interacting with people. In the role of train attendant, you must be punctual and able to travel to and from your station on your own, even when public transport is not operational.

We are looking for someone who:

• Is at least 20 years old at the start of employment, as you will be handling alcohol in the bistro service on board the trains (Alcohol Act Chapter 8, Section 18)
• Has a complete high school education or work experience deemed equivalent by the employer
• Is interested in technology and has experience working with digital tools
• Speaks and writes Swedish fluently and has good knowledge of English. It is an advantage if you master additional languages
• Meets the EU health requirements for railway personnel, which is a prerequisite for working in this safety-critical role.
