Guest Lecturer in Geosciences

The Department of Geosciences has approximately 70 employees working in the fields of physical geography, ecosystem science, and geology. We offer bachelor's and master's programs in geosciences and geography, as well as doctoral education with several geoscientific orientations. Our three prioritized research themes are "Climate and Climate Change", "Earth Surface Processes", and "Geosphere". The department is well-equipped with laboratories, such as a drone lab, GIS teaching lab, ice lab, and biogeochemical analysis lab. Job Responsibilities
The Department of Geosciences is seeking a guest lecturer for advanced level teaching in the courses Urban Climate and Urban Planning (GE6000), Open Source GIS (NGN220), as well as research within projects funded by FORMAS (HEAT) and COWI among others.
The job responsibilities include lectures and course responsibility for NGN220, field measurements, computer exercises, and supervision of project work. The courses are taught in English. Teaching requires good knowledge of urban climate, GIS, Python programming, and spatial climate modeling.
Research-related responsibilities include writing scientific articles, applying for external funding, and participating in scientific meetings. Responsibilities may also include supervising bachelor’s and master’s students, as well as supervising doctoral candidates and postdocs.
Additionally, the role includes duties as deputy director of studies for doctoral education. Other administrative tasks within the department may occur.
The employment is scheduled from July 1 to December 31, 2025, at a full-time capacity. Presence in Gothenburg is not necessary throughout the entire employment period.
Qualifications
Eligibility for employment as a teacher is specified in Chapter 4, Sections 3-4 of the Higher Education Ordinance and Gothenburg University's own employment regulations.
The following qualifications are required:
- Experience in teaching the aforementioned subjects at the bachelor’s and master’s level
- Experience in research within relevant subject areas
- Excellent communication skills in English, both oral and written
Meritorious:
- A doctoral degree in a relevant subject area
- Experience in academic assignments
