Welcome to apply for a challenging and significant position as the Executive Director of Cirkuscentrum.
We are looking for someone who wants to work for contemporary circus in Sweden and contribute to strengthening the working conditions and opportunities for professional circus artists.
As the Executive Director, you will, in close collaboration with the board and other staff, lead the daily operations, ensure effective administration, and work to improve the infrastructure and working conditions for Sweden-based professional circus artists.
The role also includes strategic communication, where you will develop materials, create, and implement Cirkuscentrum's communication strategies both nationally and internationally, all with the aim of making the organization and its members visible and driving the issues that are important for the development of the circus field and Cirkuscentrum's impact.
Introduction
Cirkuscentrum is a national non-profit membership organization and expert actor. We work to spread knowledge about circus, promote artistic development, and offer daily training and skills development. We also work to improve the working conditions and infrastructure for professional circus artists.
Cirkuscentrum is one of the 13 center organizations within arts and culture, which are a crucial force in Swedish cultural life. Each year, the center organizations facilitate over 35,000 assignments and collaborations between cultural creators and companies, institutions, municipalities, and other actors.
The center organizations act as a bridge in a freelance-based labor market, where we not only facilitate assignments but also offer expert support, networks, and skills development. This gives cultural creators better conditions to operate, develop, and reach their clients.
Job Description
In the role of Executive Director and Communications Manager for Cirkuscentrum, you will plan and lead all activities in collaboration with the board and other staff.
This includes, among other things:
- Personnel responsibility for employees responsible for Daily Training (60%) in Stockholm.
- Collaborate with Cirkuscentrum's hourly employee representative in Skåne, who is also responsible for Daily Training in collaboration with Karavan in Malmö.
- Be responsible for administration and agreements within the organization, which includes ongoing financial monitoring.
- Handle financial tasks such as invoices and bank reconciliations, as well as producing financial reports and key figures.
- Hire, lead, and coordinate the work for any project-employed staff.
- Write applications for operational and project grants and report to funders, documenting completed projects and assignments.
- Prepare and participate in AU, board meetings, and the annual meeting together with the chairperson, including the preparation of meeting documents.
- Be responsible for the ongoing administrative work of the organization.
- Develop materials for investigations carried out by external actors on behalf of Cirkuscentrum.
- Monitor the external environment and represent Cirkuscentrum in working groups and committees.
- Communicate and make visible both Cirkuscentrum's work and the contributions of its members.
- Drive advocacy and issues that are important for the organization and its members.
- Design and be responsible for Cirkuscentrum's national and international communication strategies and oversee the use of communication tools.
- Be responsible for and inform about Cirkuscentrum's statistical tools.
As an Executive Director, you need to have:
- A university degree - or equivalent - in a relevant field
- Experience working both strategically and operationally
- Good experience with application processes
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to perform assigned tasks independently
- Be outgoing, communicative, and relationship-building with a large network in the cultural field
- Experience in planning work within performing arts, events, etc.
- Documented strong leadership skills
- Experience with budget, personnel, and work environment responsibilities
- Good experience with digital communication
- Fluent in both Swedish and English, spoken and written
It is an advantage if you have:
- Experience working with contemporary circus
Job Setup
The position is a permanent employment at 80%, starting in the fall of 2025, with a 6-month probationary period. The position is based in Stockholm, but it can also be based in other cities as a large part of the job can be performed digitally. Some travel is included in the position.
Cirkuscentrum is affiliated with Swedish Performing Arts as an employer organization and follows their collective agreement with Unionen.
