Construction Manager for a large national optical fiber project

The Swedish Transport Administration, in close collaboration with the industry, is driving the implementation of ERTMS in Sweden. The European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS) is a common European standard for train protection systems that will replace an outdated signaling system and facilitate cross-border train traffic in Europe in the long term. To enable the ERTMS signaling system change, there is the InfraTele program within the Stora Projekt area where we are modernizing the Swedish Transport Administration's optical fiber facilities. You will participate in subprojects together with colleagues consisting of project managers, project engineers, and technical specialists. You will also have a lot of contact with other functions within ERTMS and other operational areas within the Swedish Transport Administration.

As a construction manager, you lead the project's daily work in the field. You are the project manager's extended arm and are responsible for following up on work in one or more of the project's phases. We are a national program, and travel for work is common.

The project is a rollout project, which means that a large number of similar activities will be carried out consecutively over a long period. You will ensure that the contractor's work is carried out according to plan and report according to the Swedish Transport Administration's processes. Together with the project organization and central support resources, you will initiate, prepare, and be responsible for the implementation and follow-up of the project regarding time, cost, quality, safety, work environment, and environment. You will ensure that norms, facility requirements, and regulations (general or client-specific) are followed by the contractor. Estimating the scope of various works upon request is also part of the role.

Possible locations for the position are Borlänge, Örebro, or Gothenburg. Do you wish to work partially remotely? In this position, there may be an opportunity to work from home up to 40 percent of your working time.

Who are you?

This is a key role for the progress of the projects, and to succeed in it, you need to be self-driven and proactive. To create profitability and efficiency in the assignment, a business-like approach and good problem-solving skills are required. You will have many contacts both within and outside the Swedish Transport Administration, which is why it is important that you are easy to collaborate with and build good relationships, and that you communicate clearly and adapt to the needs and conditions of your surroundings.

We are looking for someone who has:

• several years of relevant practical experience in the field as a construction manager, site supervisor, or project/work leader, or an equivalent role in construction, road, or railway projects
• technical university education or other education complemented by experience that we assess as equivalent
• current experience in construction work environment, quality, and safety work within construction, road, or railway projects
• a valid driver's license for passenger cars.
• good knowledge of Swedish in both spoken and written form.

It is an advantage if you have:

• experience from BEST projects within the railway sector
• current knowledge of AB/ABT, AMA, and technical descriptions within construction, road, or railway projects
• completed SOS leadership training (Safety and Security Management of Work in the Railway Area)
