Researcher in Sensing-based Positioning and 6G Networks
The Department of Computer and Electrical Engineering offers education in the fields of computer engineering, electronics, electrical engineering, and sound production. Research at the department is conducted at the research center Sensible Things that Communicate (www.miun.se/stc) and focuses on sensor-based systems and services for use in the Internet of Things and artificial intelligence.
Job Responsibilities
You will work within a research project focusing on sensing-based positioning, reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RIS), and Reduced Capability (RedCap) devices in 6G networks.
Your tasks will include conducting research and developing high-resolution algorithms for AoA estimation and machine learning-based strategies for beamforming in positioning within massive 6G IoT networks. The research encompasses modeling, simulation, and experimental validation of sub-THz channels as well as real-time validation using SDR platforms, beam-scanning reconfigurable antennas, and RIS. Special emphasis will be placed on developing solutions for optimized measurement accuracy, low latency in communication, and reduced hardware complexity in networks with zero-energy devices. You will collaborate with a multidisciplinary research team, participate in research projects, and publish results in international journals and conferences. Collaboration with industry partners and research institutes is an important part of the work, and teaching opportunities may arise depending on the scope of the project.
Qualifications
The position requires a PhD in electrical engineering, embedded systems, computer engineering, or a related field. An excellent publication record in high-quality IEEE/ACM journals and conferences is a requirement, particularly in areas such as sensing-based positioning, signal processing, beamforming in 6G IoT systems, and related fields.
Assessment Criteria
Applicants will be assessed based on their scientific competence in relevant areas. Previous experience with collaborative research projects and applications for research funding, as well as the ability to contribute to the development of innovative security solutions, are considered advantageous. Experience in experimental research, including the development of proof-of-concept, is also a significant merit. The applicant must have practical experience with simulations, SDR experiments, AoA estimation, and machine learning-based beamforming. Furthermore, experience with low latency and high accuracy in positioning in sub-THz environments is required. The applicant should have a strong publication record in international journals and conferences, as well as good programming skills in Python and MATLAB.
Personal Attributes
The position requires good collaboration skills and flexibility, as well as the ability to work independently and conduct research proactively. The applicant should have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as very good proficiency in English, both spoken and written.
Additional Assessment Criteria
The applicant should be able to communicate research results to both academic and non-academic audiences. Experience working in international research environments is considered advantageous.
Employment and Start Date
The position is a permanent full-time appointment with a start date by agreement.
Location: Sundsvall
