About the position

In the role of Assistant University Nurse, you represent the hospital both internally and externally and are expected to have a good knowledge of the hospital's vision, values, strategies, and goals. Through a long-term and overall perspective on the operations, you promote a positive work ethic and strive to create a pleasant work environment where the needs of patients are always prioritized.

As part of your assignment, you collaborate with other Assistant University Nurses, University Nurses, and nursing managers within Perioperative Medicine and Intensive Care (PMI). You report directly to the nursing manager for the thoracic surgery functional unit.

As an Assistant University Nurse in thoracic surgery, you are responsible for nursing within external operations. You play an important role in developing and promoting care within external operations such as angiography and ensuring that patients receive high-quality care and support. Your area of responsibility includes planning and ensuring that staff are trained and evaluating the training and research needs of the operations. You also identify and assess the training needs of students to ensure their learning and skills development in the field. Additionally, you create and maintain good relationships between different departments and operations within the hospital.

The role's responsibilities also include:

• teaching and implementing new knowledge and technology
• being an initiator and participant in research in the area
• development of external operations
• responsibility for staff introduction and training in the area
• monitoring the field, for example, by participating in congresses and local, national, and regional networks
• driving and being involved in various development projects

Qualifications

Requirements:

• licensed nurse with specialist training in anesthesia nursing
• at least five years of clinical experience
• master's degree
• clinical expert knowledge and defined areas of nursing responsibility and knowledge
• supervisor training, 7.5 credits

Meritorious:

• experience in driving your own projects
• previous experience in thoracic anesthesia work

About the recruitment process

The appointment as Assistant University Nurse is made after due decisions from the assessment group for nurses at Karolinska University Hospital.

Applicants fill out the application step placement 5-7 according to the competence ladder for nurses, signed by the applicant and certified by two persons, and attach to the application:

• proof of nursing license from the National Board of Health and Welfare
• proof of supervisor training/care pedagogy 7.5 credits - course after the bachelor's degree
• proof of specialist nurse degree (if required by the employer)
• proof of master's degree
• publication list
• transcript of completed courses. For example, a LADOK extract from Karolinska Institute.

The application should clearly state the defined clinical area of care within nursing. Examples can be nutrition, pain, wounds, or nursing within a specific flow/patient group.

• supervise/teach colleagues and/or students

Function Perioperative Medicine and Intensive Care is the hospital's collective resource for anesthesia, surgery, pre- and post-operative care, and intensive care for adults. We are also responsible for hyperbaric chambers (HBO), highly specialized pain care, and sterile technical units.
