The Polar Research Secretariat is a government agency that promotes and coordinates Swedish polar research. This includes monitoring and planning research and development work as well as organizing and leading research expeditions to the Arctic and Antarctica. The agency has about 30 employees and operates in places such as Luleå, Abisko, Helsingborg, on the icebreaker Oden, and in Antarctica. Our overarching goal is to increase the international impact of Swedish polar research.
We are now looking for a research support coordinator for the land-based research support unit, located in Abisko or remotely from home within Sweden. The position involves annual trips to Antarctica (up to three months). The unit is led by a unit manager and has an additional ten employees, all based in Abisko. The work is carried out in close collaboration with these colleagues.
Responsibilities
- Plan annual expeditions to Antarctica
- Lead or participate in leadership teams for expeditions
- Be an instructor in connection with preparations for Antarctic expeditions
- Coordinate collaborations between researchers, authorities, and organizations, both nationally and internationally
- Strategic work in preparation for the International Polar Year 2032/2033
- Represent the agency and Swedish polar research in national and international contexts
- Provide direct and indirect support to research conducted at the Abisko Scientific Research Station (ANS)
We are looking for someone who has
- A university degree in a natural science subject equivalent to a master's degree, preferably with a polar focus
- Good leadership skills
- Good understanding of field-based research and/or environmental monitoring programs
- Good organizational skills
- Good analytical skills as well as initiative and collaboration abilities
- Very good knowledge of English, both spoken and written
It is a plus if you have:
- Experience working in polar regions or other extreme environments
- Special expertise in, for example, the technical side of environmental monitoring programs, expedition logistics, and field safety
- Good knowledge of Swedish

The employment is full-time and permanent, with a six-month probationary period.
