Licensed Nurse for Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (BIVA)
REGION SKÅNEMake a Difference. Every Day.
Welcome to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (BIVA)! We are a multidisciplinary unit providing highly specialized intensive care for children and adolescents aged 0-18 years. Here you will meet patients with acute infections, metabolic diseases, and pediatric medical conditions in neurology, oncology, and orthopedics. We are one of four pediatric intensive care units in Sweden and have the NHV assignment (national highly specialized care) for pediatric cardiac surgery and pediatric surgery. Our largest patient group consists of children and adolescents with congenital heart defects and congenital surgical malformations. We also have an international mission to receive and care for patients with congenital heart defects from Iceland. We take pride in having world-leading results in pediatric intensive care.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
In an Intensive Care Unit, no two days are alike. Here we work bedside in interdisciplinary teams where you, as a nurse, collaborate with doctors and nursing assistants to prioritize the child's best interests with a family-centered approach. It is essential that your work is based on the needs of the child and family and characterized by commitment, responsiveness, and structure.
The work we offer you is both varied and stimulating, with opportunities for professional development alongside your dedicated and experienced colleagues. With us, you will receive an introduction based on a longer and individually tailored orientation program set according to your circumstances, along with a mentor who guides you throughout the period. You will also participate in the department's own training sessions, including lectures on topics such as respiration and heart defects. Furthermore, you will have the opportunity to join a reflection group where newly hired staff meet and are guided by experienced colleagues.
Ann-Christine, intensive care nurse, shares: The best part of working at BIVA is the vast variety of ages and diagnoses we encounter. It is both developmental and challenging. Meeting children and their families in high-tech intensive care and being there for the child and their parents throughout the care process is incredibly rewarding.
