This may include GI bleeding, abdominal sepsis, cholecystitis, pancreatitis, ileus, or appendicitis. We are also responsible for monitoring and caring for trauma patients who do not require ICU or NIVA care. This includes, for example, traffic accidents, gunshot and stab wounds, and falls. In many cases, these patients require emergency surgery and are prepared accordingly.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

We work in interdisciplinary teams in the department where each team consists of a nurse, nursing assistant, and physician, collectively responsible for about six patients. The rehabilitation group supports daily care with both patient-related interventions and administrative tasks, such as work in my plans. There is also a pharmacist attached to the department to facilitate administration and ensure safer medication management.

In addition to basic nursing care, we also have the opportunity for telemetry monitoring and to perform urgent gastro/colonoscopy during on-call hours. In the event of acute situations, the department is quickly mobilized based on needs and conditions and is an important part of the care chain's preparedness. For optimized management of emergency flow, collaboration with others in operational areas, both within and outside the hospital, is a crucial part of the work. Therefore, there is operationally responsible staff in the department who play a key role in this.

We work with a business-adapted quota schedule that provides good opportunities for recovery for employees. You create your own schedule, thereby having the opportunity to influence your working hours.

Future plans for the department include further developing the care of critically ill patients, including trauma. We are making educational investments and developing our orientation program for new staff and competence profile for continued development both within the unit and in our role in trauma assignments. Region Skåne is investing in increased professional development for nurses. For newly graduated nurses, there is a clinical foundation year that includes lectures, clinical skills training, and access to a mentor. Our employees are engaged in various forms of development groups or areas of responsibility.

We have nursing leaders who are responsible for professional development in the department.
