The Halland County Museums Foundation operates the museum activities at Halland Art Museum and Halland Cultural History Museum as well as cultural heritage management in the region. We are Halland's largest regional cultural institution with around eighty employees. The advertised position is located at Halland Art Museum in Halmstad.

Workplace Description

Halland Art Museum is located in Halmstad and operates throughout the region. The organization has about thirty employees. Halland's Cultural Strategy 2025-2032 emphasizes the importance of a free art and cultural life with strong institutions for a democratic society. Broadened participation is also an important goal. Halland Art Museum plays a central role in realizing the strategy and being a hub for the art scene in all of Halland. The activities include the Resource Center for Art in Halland, where the art museum, in collaboration with Region Halland, drives regional development issues within the visual arts and design fields. The museum conducts extensive outreach activities with exhibitions, programs, and education. The museum's mission includes the Open-Air Museum Hallandsgården, where work on a new profiling is ongoing.

Halland Art Museum is responsible for art and cultural historical collections, archive collections, and a number of public works in Halland. The art collection consists of objects in various techniques and expressions such as art, design, crafts, and photography. The archive collections have two focuses, image archives and archives for documents such as handicraft archives and artist archives. Today, the museum's collections are distributed across both internal and external storage facilities in Halmstad. The Svea Larson Donation Fund enables significant acquisitions annually.

Job Description

Work at Halland Art Museum is organized into three departments: Exhibitions & Collections, Public & Regional Presence, and Services & Technology. The museum is now looking for a curator for art collections, who will be part of the Exhibitions and Collections department.

As the Curator for Art Collections, you, together with the department head and colleagues, are responsible for the development and quality assurance of the collections. A foundation-wide development work is ongoing in the area of collection management. You work operationally with the collections and ensure sustainable routines regarding acquisitions, digitization, and long-term management. We see that you have a strong interest in collection development from a sustainability perspective.

If necessary, you participate in joint efforts across the museum's collection area. You have an active role in the museum's exhibition and communication work where knowledge of art and archive collections is fundamental. Public work may be included.

You are the face of the museum in lending and borrowing, conservator efforts, and within various networks. The curator is responsible, if necessary, for the museum's work on the production of public artworks in Halland and participates in the ongoing development of the Open-Air Museum Hallandsgården.

As a colleague, you actively contribute to strengthening the profile of Halland Art Museum and work for good collaboration within the Halland County Museums Foundation as well as with other actors.

Qualifications

•Bachelor's or Master's degree with a focus on art history

•Practical professional experience in collection management and object handling as well as good knowledge of artistic techniques and methods

•Good digital administrative skills and experience in independently planning, initiating, and project managing collection work.

•Experience in digitization and working in databases

•Training in archiving, or equivalent knowledge acquired in other ways, is meritorious

•Experience in leading public art projects based on artist contacts, project management, legal issues, and finance is meritorious

As a person, you are solution-oriented, responsible, and very meticulous. You enjoy collaborating while having the ability to work independently, structured, and goal-oriented.

Good communication skills in Swedish and English, both spoken and written.

A valid driver's license is required.
