Värmdö is the meeting place of the archipelago with a unique combination of nature's serene beauty and a more urban lifestyle. Our mission is not one but many: schools, real estate, social services, harbors, healthcare, libraries, care, and many more. We strive to ensure that all residents of Värmdö can live a rich and free life. We want to be the ones who enable the dream of a vibrant and safe environment for homes, families, and businesses.
To achieve this fully, we must have many and extensive competencies and work together for a common and trusting work culture, built on brave, responsible employees who understand the needs and wishes of the residents. This is what we call One Värmdö, One Administration.
The Värmdö Culture School is a voluntary municipal activity for children and young people aged 6–20 who are registered in Värmdö municipality.
Our goal is to convey knowledge and skills in visual arts, dance, music, and film. Through joyful learning, we aim to provide all our students with the conditions for a richer life through cultural practice and creation.
The Culture School has 26 teachers, approximately 800 students in voluntary courses, and about 1200 students in primary school through Culture in School in grades 1 and 2. The activities are conducted throughout Värmdö, both in our own premises and externally.
In the role of teacher in singing, choir, and piano, you will inspire and teach our students in these subjects. As a choir and singing teacher, you will also have an important, creative, and outward-facing role in our projects and performances, where you initiate, drive, and coordinate the productions of the culture school. You enjoy having a central role and are passionate about productions where many children and young people can have the chance to participate in artistic experiences.
The position includes, in addition to term courses and productions, various types of outreach activities, school visits, open house days, and holiday activities. Teaching takes place during students' free time, primarily in the afternoons and evenings. Weekend activities may also occur.
You should have a pedagogical degree in singing/choir from a music academy or another education that the employer deems equivalent. You should also have good experience in accompanying students and teaching piano.
You will teach students in both pop/rock/jazz and classical repertoire and therefore need to have a good breadth of genres. The position also includes being a fire safety inspector for some of our premises. A driver's license and access to a personal vehicle is an advantage as we have teaching at several different locations in Värmdö.
As a person, you have the ability to stimulate and motivate students. You have good collaboration skills and can communicate with students, guardians, colleagues, and other staff in the municipality. You are independent and can take your own initiatives for the development of the educational activities. You are creative and see opportunities in the student's creation. You are strongly engaged in your subject and have a holistic perspective on the culture school's activities.
For this position, presenting a valid extract from the police's criminal record is a prerequisite for employment.
Värmdö municipality offers a wellness allowance, SL card against net salary deduction, vacation exchange for extra days off, and much more. We also actively work to create health-promoting workplaces with a good working environment and apply smoke-free working hours.
We value the qualities that diversity brings to the organization and therefore welcome applicants with different backgrounds, life experiences, and gender identities for the position.
The employment is for a 100% permanent position. Start date is August 15.
