About the department

Are you curious about thoracic surgery?

We are the only department in Västra Götaland that provides highly specialized care in thoracic surgery, mostly planned but also some emergency cases.

The thoracic department consists of both pre- and postoperative care beds, as well as an intermediate and postoperative recovery unit, where we provide specific nursing care and monitoring for patients who have undergone heart or lung surgery. We plan to expand our postoperative recovery unit this autumn, and are therefore looking for new employees who are eager to develop this together with us!

What do we offer?

We believe in a good start, which means an individually tailored introduction period depending on previous experience. Our instructor will plan and implement a development plan for your skills together with you, with discussions and reflections during your first year in the role. We offer skill-enhancing department-wide lectures and reflection sessions based on current topics, and there is an opportunity for further education as a specialist nurse, where we have our own partners in the thoracic intensive care unit and thoracic surgery.

We create individual schedules in 10-week periods and work two weekends out of five. The management of the department consists of two unit managers, two section leaders, and one instructor, all with backgrounds in thoracic surgery.

We work with a clear career and development model, where your development is important alongside the needs of the organization. Mandatory training in A-HLR is included during the first year and then ongoing.

Job description

As a nurse in our thoracic department, you will be responsible for planning, implementing, and following up on all nursing care for patients undergoing heart or lung surgery. You will work in your role as a nurse in a team with several other professional categories, aiming for good and safe care. As a registered nurse, you will be offered individual skill-enhancing development by combining work on the ward with work in our postoperative recovery unit.

About you

We are looking for a registered nurse. Working as a nurse with us requires personal maturity and independence, and we seek someone who takes responsibility and has the ability and courage to act according to their convictions. You work well with others by listening and communicating, and you handle different situations constructively. Since the work on the ward is often varied and challenging, we also see that you are a flexible and solution-oriented person with good collaboration skills and a positive attitude.

If you are a newly graduated nurse, you will be part of the Clinical Foundation Year, which is our introduction program. The Clinical Foundation Year is mandatory and lasts for the first year of your employment with us. It includes lectures, nursing supervision, and practical training in your profession at the Simulation Center. Additionally, it includes service in at least two different departments to broaden your competence.

In the event of recruitment of nurses/doctors with foreign qualifications/specialist certificates, the position will be preceded by a process to meet the requirements for Swedish qualifications/specialist certificates.
