Developer at the National Library of Sweden

Do you want to be part of driving the change of Sweden's digital cultural heritage and develop modern, innovative technical solutions?

We are currently looking for two different developers who want to help develop systems for the collection, preservation, and accessibility of Sweden's digital cultural heritage (two different ads). You will be part of a team working with the management of the National Library of Sweden's (KB's) extensive collections of text and audiovisual material.

KB has a unique digital collection that offers fantastic opportunities for development and innovation, including by utilizing the AI capabilities that KB itself develops through KB Lab. With us, you will have the opportunity to work with socially important services to safeguard Sweden's cultural heritage.

Become part of the exciting technical development journey at the National Library of Sweden!

Responsibilities

As a developer at KB, you will be involved in the development and maintenance of systems that collect, preserve, and make Sweden's digital cultural heritage accessible. You will work in a team alongside other developers, UX, business specialists, and product leaders. You will be involved in the entire development chain from analysis, design, and development to testing and maintenance, and you will work with various systems at KB. We work in agile teams with a strong focus on personal responsibility and a desire to continuously improve our operations and services to our users.

Your responsibilities include:

  • Developing and maintaining systems for the collection, preservation, and provision of digital material
  • Participating in the development of systems to streamline KB's work in collecting, preserving, and providing Sweden's digital cultural heritage.
  • Collaborating in cross-functional teams with both technical and business-related expertise

The Team

At KB, there are a total of just over 25 developers distributed across five teams, each working towards their own domain and area of operation. As KB is at the beginning of a transformation and change journey, we are hiring to the unit, and depending on preferences and profiles, as well as what is prioritized for KB's operations, team affiliation may vary. Our development teams collaborate closely, and even though we focus on different areas, we are helpful when needed and take time for each other. We all sit together in KB's premises in Humlegården, with the possibility of working from home up to three days a week.

In the team, we have close collaboration with business specialists, UX/design, and product leaders. Each team has a backlog from which the team's priorities and daily work are determined. The teams work agilely with three-week sprints and have regular hackathons to explore new technologies and solutions. As a developer at KB, you have a great opportunity to influence the choices we make now and in the future.

Qualifications and Personal Attributes

We are looking for someone who is responsible, enjoys working together with others, and solving problems in a group while also being able to drive their own initiatives and work independently. As a developer at KB, you are expected to collaborate with others both within and outside your team. You learn easily and contribute to a learning work environment where we collectively develop and test new ways to solve tasks. We also believe that you are fascinated by data, enjoy large datasets, and have encountered data flows before.

To succeed in this role, you need:

  • Relevant academic education or vocational training in IT (at least two years) or equivalent knowledge acquired in another way.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in system development
  • Documented experience in programming in Python
  • Knowledge of version control with Git
  • Very good communication skills in both spoken and written Swedish and English

Preferred qualifications include:

  • Documented experience with container technologies, preferably Kubernetes
  • Knowledge and experience in programming in Java
  • Experience working with search engines, e.g., ElasticSearch
  • Familiarity with large-scale data management and data flows
  • Experience with CI/CD and automated testing
  • Experience working collaboratively in agile teams

Great emphasis is placed on your personal attributes.
